OK, we’ll stop. Begrudgingly. In case it’s not clear, we love pirates, which is why we’re all caught up in Booty Quest, a traditional match-three puzzler featuring our favourite lawless seafarers.
From Outplay Entertainment, a 170-person game studio comprising former EA, Ubisoft, Sony, Microsoft and King employees, the title focuses on simple, straightforward puzzling with lots of presentation pop. Match three or more jewels to clear lines from the board for booty, all while 3D animations play out at the top of the screen.
In some stages, you search for treasure while avoiding hidden obstacles that make clearing lines more difficult. Other stages challenge you to dive for pearls before rising water levels fill the screen.
Gameplay is interspersed with scenes of the lovable Captain Piper and her ragtag group of tiger, elephant, monkey and koala pirates (yep, they’re mostly animals) engaged in battle or seeking out hidden treasures.
Outplay has big plans for Booty Quest: 20 new stages per week, many with different themes, and an exotic world to explore every month. Over the course of the next year, look for ghost pirates and (gulp) krakens.
