MASTER YOUR MAC

Get your game on with Monterey

The latest macOS levels up your Mac gaming.

With macOS Monterey, your Mac is optimised for fun like never before. Here’s a look at the coolest new capabilities.

Keep your focus

With the new Focus feature, you can allow notifications from only the apps you want, when you want them. That means you won’t be distracted by sports news when you’re ruling the court in NBA 2K22 or dashing through Dandara, but messages from your friends will still come through.

To create a Focus for gaming, go to System Preferences > Notifications & Focus and click the plus sign button, then choose Gaming. From there you can select which apps and contacts to allow notifications from.

By default, your Focus for Gaming turns on whenever a wireless game controller is connected; to customise further, go to System Preferences > Notifications & Focus.

Find your friends

Game Center brings you closer to your friends while keeping you in the action. The new friend-request inbox shows all incoming requests, while contacts and groups you’ve recently chatted with in Messages appear in the multiplayer game selector.

See and send game invites right from your Game Center profile.

Share instant replays

Now it’s easier than ever to share videos of your moments of triumph: in games that support a game controller, simply press and hold the share button to record a rolling 15-second video of the action and have it save automatically to the desktop. (To change the button that activates this feature, go to System Preferences > Bluetooth and click the options button next to your game controller.)

Optimise your display

Gaming on an external display that supports Adaptive Sync? A recent Mac running macOS Monterey can automatically match the refresh rate of the display with the frame rate of the game you’re playing, making your games look better than ever. To enable the feature, connect to a compatible display and go to System Preferences > Displays.
