Top Drives – Car Cards Racing

Collect, Upgrade & Race Rivals

VIEW

Yes, there are supercars to collect eventually, but it’s refreshing to find that the first races in Top Drives appear to be between your dad’s old Vauxhall Astra and uncle Colin’s dodgy old Honda Prelude.

With hundreds of cars in Top Drives there’s a steady progression from ones you might have seen in a Watford car park 20 years ago to the sleek sportscars rolling around Dubai’s most salubrious areas. This game has everything in between, too.

In short, Top Drives is digital Top Trumps. Whether the theme was footballers, comicbook heroes or dinosaurs, anyone who’s played the classic card game before will feel at home here. You open up a pack of cards and use them to take part in a series of races designed to test your cars’ strengths and weaknesses against an opponent, real or virtual.

Collect cars and race on tracks around the world.

So, while initially you’ll get handed old Ford Fiestas and Mini Coopers to race, you can tune them up and eventually sell them on, working your way up to something faster and shinier. The races are automatic, so those stats are important – this is not a racing game in the purest sense, rather a collectible card game with a stat-based battle mechanic. And a lot of cars.

With its two MMX games, Race Kings and now Top Drives, you can see that UK developer Hutch Games is hellbent on satisfying the average car nerd’s every vehicular desire. Top Drives’ diverse and detailed roster, simple playstyle and dash of Top Trumps nostalgia ticks off another box.
