Great for 1st time Instrument Students

When you first get into Instrument Rating simple things feel complex because it’s a lot of new concepts all at once that you have to merge together. I also chalk it up to us kids who didn’t grow up with Mapscos & why learn ground based Nav when you have GPS?

After a week of fiddling with these apps I now feel like “duh” using them & tracking VOR/NDB/ILS is baby’s play- but the $10 was worth getting that puzzle piece to snap.

ALSO check out Pilots Cafe online & download the Instrument Training PDF - these resources aggregate so much & give you a ton of what I call “puzzle piece moments” that simple concepts “snap” into place & help you to progress. From reading reviews I hear a lot of people say IR moves forward too fast compared to PPL & it’s that you have to consistently get to a point of total mastery before you progress & IR training highlights your weaknesses & you need fix those to move forward.
I also believe in giving some amount of payment to people who design such integral study aids (which is why I bring up they have an online PDF you can donate to - and let me tell you - it really does help for studying for written / oral for IR.) So quit pertaining to the cheap Pilot stereotype & shell the $10 out to those helping us become the best pilots we can be ($10 is nothing in the face of the $Ks you’re spending for flying the plane & even an extra 30 minutes in the plane “figuring out tracking” costs way more than this app set. )

PS the FIRST time I did an ILS in the Cessna I flew it perfectly down to 200AGL (was just supposed to be LOC, but I tracked perfectly in & he was like, ILS it is!) My instructor was STOKED & toyed with the idea of letting me keep my Foggles on to land (we didn’t BTW!)
So thanks PilotsCafe for the great tool that made me look like a BadA$$
