クマムシは南極からヒマラヤ山脈、身近な道路のコケからなど、これまでに1300種類以上発見されているミクロアニマル。宇宙空間でも生存可能な最強の極限環境耐性を持ちながらも、ひっくり返ると自力では起きられないというユニークな能力パラメーターの生き物です。NASAでは宇宙生物学（アストロバイオロジー）のモデル生物としても研究され、2019年には乾眠中のクマムシ数千匹を載せたイスラエルの月面探査機が月面に墜落したことでも話題になりました。
世界中でクマムシブームが来る前兆かも？
この最強のゆるキャラの謎を解き明かし、地球最後の日を乗り越え、人類の宇宙進出を目指しましょう。クリプトビオシス（隠された生命）、パンスペルミア(胚種広布)説。元NASAのクマムシ研究者の協力を得ながら開発さた本格クマムシ研究エンターテイメント。世界の、そして宇宙のクマムシさん全系統確立を目指して、カジュアルなのに壮大なクマムシ研究者の物語が始まります。第一章は北海道編。
今後、日本全国の都道府県、世界各国、南極、そして月・・・と続いていく予定です。
本作の最大の特徴は、ネットワークを使用したユニークな機能で、オリジナルの『ご当地クマムシさん』のイラストを修正し、新種のクマムシさんとしてサーバーに登録することができます。登録されたクマムシさんは別のプレイヤーのゲーム中にも登場し、最初に発見した人が正式な名前を登録することが可能で、そのクマムシさんをさらに進化させ新種として地球に解き放つことも可能です。Twitterの#ご当地で検索すれば、その進化の歴史が丸わかり。種の同定や分類学的な作業をカジュアルな操作に落とし込んだ機能で、クマムシさんの進化（KUMAMUSHINKA）の歴史の1ページに誰もが加わることができます。
クマムシさん研究所の助手キャラクターイラストは、アニメーション制作会社の動画工房が担当しています。
