《乙瑛碑》,全称《汉鲁相乙瑛请置孔庙百石卒史碑》,又名《孔庙置守庙百石孔龢碑》,东汉永兴元年(公元153年)刻,原石现存山东曲阜孔庙。与《礼器》、《史晨》并称“孔庙三碑”,历为书家所重。
清杨守敬评:“是碑隶法实佳,翁覃溪(翁方纲)云:‘骨肉匀适,情文流畅。’诚非溢美,但其波磔已开唐人庸俗一路。”这正讲出了该碑的微妙处。临写此碑要特别注意波画的“逆入平出”,尤其是起笔处的逆势不能形迹外露。如“蚕头”的逆势形迹向上作侧锋外露,就流于了唐隶“蚕头”起笔侧露的庸俗风气。
《乙瑛碑》是汉隶中有数的逸品,字势开展,古朴浑厚,俯仰有致,向背分明。特别是后半段,采取笔杆倒向左侧的逆向行笔,使每一点画入木三分,扣的很紧,尤为高妙。《乙瑛碑》的结字看似规正,实则巧丽,字势向左右拓展。书风谨严素朴,为学汉隶的范本之一。
