宋词三百首由晚清四大词人之一的朱孝臧于1924年编定，共收录宋代词人八十八位。编者朱孝臧(1857-1931)，原名祖谋，字古微，好沤尹，又号彊村、上彊村民，浙江归安人，其选录标准，以混成为主旨，并求之体格、神致。
宋词是宋代盛行的一种中国文学形式，它的行文风格不像诗那样整齐，便于歌唱。因是合乐的歌词，故又称曲子词、乐府、乐章、长短句、诗余、琴趣等。
宋词是一种相对于古体诗的新体诗歌，代表着宋代文学的最高成就。
