8-bit Bedtime Stories 4+

I spent some time entering details about our family and friends. Our pets too, of course. We have discussed as a family many values that we hold so I typed those in as well. I added a few values and some characteristics that I thought would make the stories more interesting. Each story I have created brings me joy as I read it. It's really interesting to see how the things that matter to my family are woven into stories. This is a must have for storytellers and story listeners.

Love that we can remind our kids what our family values are in a fun and creative way with these stories. It only takes about 10min to set up the whole family and your family values- then you are given numerous different stories created just for you within minutes!

This is a really fun idea for an app, unfortunately, it falls short. I saw an ad on TikTok for this app and thought it looked cool and decided to try it out. The TikTok add claimed this app would create 10 minute bedtime stories for the whole family.
There were a few things that raised red flags for me right away, such as:
• No free trial. The year long subscription claims to give 3 free days, but I’m skeptical if that is accurate. It would have been nice to have 2-3 free stories before needing to purchase a subscription.
• Before you’re able to create any stories, you have to spend ~30 minutes entering information about you and your family members. The bios need to be written from scratch. At least in the “family values” you’re presented with a few examples, but then you have to come up with the rest on your own. You would think that for an app utilizing AI to write stories, it could also use AI to ask questions about your family and family members in order to get the information it needs.

Once I finished filling out the bios, I moved to creating a story. I found the selection of topics / subjects to be pretty limited, and are the same each time. Once again before generating a story you have to fill out a focus for the story - no examples given, no AI asking questions to better understand what you’d like, just a text box.

The stories themselves were very short. The first paragraph is basically just copied directly from the bios you write and doesn’t pertain to the rest of the story in any way. The body of the story lacks details and depth. For the most part the stories read “the family did this thing, then went and did this other thing, then they returned home.” Very disappointing.

I tried to submit feedback through the app as well, but after typing out my thoughts, I was met with an error saying “something went wrong”.

Overall disappointed I spent $10 on this app. Maybe with a lot of work it could be really good, but not in the state it is currently in.

Lemme go through your items one at a time to see if i can do something to make the app better!

1. No free trial. I've been testing out different pricing and landed on no free trial for the monthly based of advice from some people who are more expert than me at this! I dig the idea of your first story or 2 free though. I'll work something in to get you to try it more before you buy!
2. Use AI to help you fill out information: I dig this idea! I agree the onboarding and setup is a lot. I'm not quite sure yet how to make it more of a guided experience yet, do you think something like a chat experience (vs text boxes) or maybe split the text boxes across more screens with more hints?
3. Feedback throwing an error: Golly that is embarrassing. I'm testing it now and I think maybe what happened is I had permissions setup incorrectly.
4. Quality of story: I'm wondering if a "level of complexity" input or "Grade Level" would help to make the stories more sophisticated.

This is an important endeavor for me and the family as a path to breaking the 9 to 5 and getting out of the rat race (ultimately so I can spend most days with my girls instead of all day at work), so I'm willing to put in whatever is needed to make this work.
