80 Days

Based on Jules Verne’s classic story, 80 Days takes you around the world in a choose-your-own-adventure game that'll have you riveted. Every person you meet, every thing you purchase—and even what you choose to pack—has an impact on your trip and can lead to a victorious journey or an utter failure. Inkle Studios’ beautiful creation is stitched together with wonderful typography, gorgeous music, and a story you’ll return to time and time again.
If you are one who is bored of the same garbage the App Store keeps churning out, demanding IAPs and really adding nothing new to the table, look no further than 80 Days. For one, it's original. There are choose-your-own adventure games out there already, such as A Dark Room, but this one achieves something more. It feels like a game, while also being an engrossing, emotional story of two people simply trying to go around the world. Along the way, you are met with certain choices that affect the rest of the playthrough. All the while, you have RPG elements such as money, inventory, and trading that give it a video game feel. Even if you are not one for reading, and it is text heavy, you will forget all about that and become immersed in the decisions of these two brave adventurers. Tens of hours of gameplay are offered here. I've played through twice (I circumnavigated the world in 79 days on my 2nd try) and cannot wait to play it through again. I see myself playing through at least 5 times to maybe see all the game has to offer, but I don't know if even that will suffice. That's 15 hours of gameplay (or more) for $5. I'm very stingy yet still extremely satisfied with my purchase. Thank you for this amazing game, Inkle.Update: I've now played through the game 6 times (my record is 64 days) and am still amazed by this game. I've put in at least 20 hours so far. Thank you Inkle for the update that added many more cities and much more text. 6/5 stars.
Do you have a long car or train or aeroplane ride in your future? Well then this is the perfect game for you! Not only can you take far more interesting and exciting methods of transport than in real life, you can read far more interesting and exciting things than happen in real life! But seriously, this is almost the perfect mobile game. Suitable for either long play sessions or just one leg of your journey during a lunch break, you can play it at your own pace, despite what the promotional materials may imply. The writing and dialogue are brilliant, and in turns both snappily funny and deeply touching. The art for all the different cities and vehicles is beautiful, and the planning aspect is surprisingly deep and complex if you choose to engage deeply, while still being easy to pick up for a more casual player or if you want to focus more on the masterful writing. Five dollars is a great price for this much value. My only complaint is that the Game Center integration where you can see your friends’ past routes as well as your own doesn't seem to work anymore, but I suppose that's inevitable after five years of not being updated. Still, I would strongly advise anyone considering a purchase to do it. If you like narrative games, books, or heck even strategy games, you’ll love this.
I have been avidly playing iPhone game for over 5 years, and this one has got to be one of the best. An absolutely incredible mixture of strategy and a story that is gripping. I got this app a week ago and have played through the 3ish hour story 5 times without slowing down. That's how good the replay value is. The experiences you have during your self-guided travel around the world are honestly unforgettable! I have encountered sea monsters, a floating city, demi-god people, an island ship, the North Pole, and so much more between all the little cities I stopped at along the way. I can't tell you enough, you simply must buy this game. One word for the brilliant developers: I am growing tired of having to go past the same events in Europe every time I start again, maybe create more things to do in the major cities so we can truly have a new experience every time we restart? And the titles of the runthroughs are awfully broad, maybe make some more meaning behind them? I read in another review about the want for a sandbox mode, so we can truly visit all the cities, and I would like that, but could also see how it could take away from the experience. Thanks again for this incredible app!
It is a rare occurrence for me to find a game, particularly an iOS game that is completely text-based, so good that I feel a legitimate obligation to write a 5-star review. That being said, if you are not into a playable narrative, 80 Days is not for you. The first play-through I didn't pay much attention to the story, and that's a big mistake. The compelling choices you are given and the completely different ways that you can make it around the world on each play-through is truly extraordinary. The re-playablity is endless. Although I've seen some reviews that say the game needs a guide, I disagree. I understand what they're saying because the game has about as much depth as the Grand Canyon, and I too was tempted at points to go to Safari and look up a guide or walkthrough. I never did it; I feel that if I did it would compromise the intrigue and genuine excitement that you get when you play the game. One more note. As I was saying, on the first play-through I didn't find it too exciting. When you play this game, I recommend doing so with headphones, and when you have a little free time to simply sit and enjoy it. Have fun!
This stands out as one of the very best games I have ever purchased. I have played through this game about five times and was thinking this last time that I was done, I had explored all that I could. Holy moley was I wrong. Due to some choices in what I had 'packed' and 'sold' the story veered into completely different territory. I am absolutely surprised. Seriously avoid any guides, you will figure it out and the game is more delightful when you do. It is text based, so don't expect brilliant graphics and animation. You do not have to converse there are other choices, and be aware that all your choices change the direction and outcome. This is not one of those games that require a guide because otherwise you come to an absolute stop. You will be able to continue and the tools for changing outcomes will unfold. Another thing, this does not always have a happy ending and it is absolutely not predictable. I have developed a genuine affection for 'my' character and applaud the writers for the dimensions that pop out. Kudos to the game developers!
I'm completely blind and downloaded this game because they Frankenstein one was so much fun! I was able to play the entire Frankenstein games through because it was all text based. Space I thought this game would be just as easy to play, especially after reading all of the five-star reviews on the App Store. Unfortunately, I am stuck on the Beaconbeginning of the game after the part that introduces the gambling man. Then there is a button that no matter how many times I press it nothing happens. I'm not sure if this is a voiceover screen reader issue or what. All I know is that I'm able to start the music, but the paragraph that talks about passport you meeting his new master, a gambling man,is where I can't continue in the game. Please fix this in the next update, and if you have any questions about how to make this game more accessible to voiceover users, contact apple Vis...please? I'm looking forward to the next fully accessible to the blind and visually impaired community update!
