ABBU Restore opens contact archives (.abbu) and AddressBook folders, the kind that turn up in old backups and on Time Machine volumes. You can inspect the contents first and then export the contacts you want as vCard or CSV files, either the whole archive or any part of it. Apple’s Contacts app always replaces all existing contacts and accounts when you restore an .abbu archive. ABBU Restore never does that. It opens the archive and you export a single contact, a group, an account, or everything at once. Your own contacts in Apple Contacts stay untouched. WHAT IT CAN OPEN • .abbu archives with a single address book or with several sources in them • AddressBook folders from the Library folder, where Contacts keeps its data on disk • Tested with contact databases from Mac OS X 10.6, OS X 10.10, and the latest macOS, including archives with more than 12,000 contacts EXPORTING CONTACTS • vCard 3.0 with Apple extensions: photos, notes, phonetic names, and custom labels are preserved • Contact photos are exported when the backup holds them locally. Photos that only ever lived in iCloud were never part of the backup and cannot be recovered from it. • CSV for spreadsheets, ready for Excel or Numbers: one column per field and label • Freely selectable scope: a single contact, the current selection, a group, an account, or the entire archive • Contacts can be dragged out of the window as a vCard Requirement: macOS 14 or later.
