Description

ACDS CAMP (Contact Allergen Management Program) is a database provided by the American Contact Dermatitis Society (ACDS) which is designed to help patients with allergic contact dermatitis find personal care products that are free of the ingredients that are causing their allergic reactions. Each list generated is personalized for the patient. The list is not exhaustive, but is an excellent starting point for patients to find products that will relieve their allergic reactions.
The CAMP app is designed to allow patients to carry their own personalized list of "safe" products on their phone in an easy-to-use and sort format. The CAMP app makes shopping for allergen-free products simple!
In order to use the CAMP app, patients must first obtain their individualized "safe" product list and user ID codes from a participating ACDS physician.
The CAMP app is designed to access the CAMP database so that the patient’s safe product list is displayed on their phone. The list can then be sorted by product type, brand name or product name. There is also a search function to help search for products using specific criteria. Favorite products can be chosen and displayed. The app also displays a list of specific allergens which the patient needs to avoid.

Useful App but needs work and updates badly!

This app is a great tool for helping to find skin contact allergen-friendly products and it seems to be updated for products regularly. Unfortunately, the base app itself is terribly out-of-date. There is little to no info beyond just the basic list of products (it doesn’t even mention whether it’s a list of safe or unsafe products), and the search feature is absolute garbage; I’ve typed products into it numerous times with no result, only to find that exact products on the list later. On a lesser note, the app is so outdated that it doesn’t support modern iPhone screen sizes, which doesn’t affect use much but is a bit annoying.

Overall I’m glad this app exists, it just needs a little bit of attention to keep up-to-date.

Used to be good

This used to be a straightforward list of items that were considered safe based on my allergens. There were straightforward categories, a search option, and the option to favorite items. The recent update has added “enhancements” that have made the app almost unusable. Instead of just a list of safe items someone decided we also needed a list of unsafe items—if it’s unsafe I don’t even need to know about it. Instead of a straightforward list everything is now a tile with a squashed image of a label which means you really need to be connected to wifi or have good cell service to use the app. The previous app was hard enough to load and use with limited service but it was do able. What category is sunscreen under? Well of course it’s under “suntan preparations” because everyone knows you use sunscreen when you want a suntan. Where is eye makeup located? Well of course it located under “eye preparations” and not with all the other make-up. They also added features like reviewing products 🙄and gathering all kinds of personal information about you that they will undoubtedly collect and use for their own research. Thankfully, the personal information farming is optional. It’s incredibly frustrating to have allergic contact dermatitis and now it’s even more frustrating because a simple straightforward app has been turned into a difficult to navigate nightmare with information no one needs—again why are you showing me unsafe products?!? Who asked for that?!?

Quality

I have been using this app for a couple of years. There are some pros and cons, it is useful to go to the app when shopping for products because of my sensitivity. One issue is a lack of products of each category every now and then. It can be frustrating because there may be only one or two items you can use which can be very limited (and expensive). A suggestion, I would recommend to those who created the app. When you click on every product there should be an option to look at a photo of the item. I find myself going back and forth from the app to Google, just to make sure I am looking at the correct product. If this is implemented, I believe that it will make the app that much more useful for those who use it!
