Amazing adventure with Suzie Cooney

My ideal vacations are always a balance of time relaxing and going on cool new adventures. Saw a morning workout adventure with Suzie Cooney on the app and knew it would be the perfect way to kickstart my morning on Maui. The app was easy to book and communicate through. Suzie accommodated my schedule and created a really fun, innovative, and hard workout for me to do on the beach. She coached me through all the movements and was fun to hang with for the morning! She gave me lots of great insights on island history and fun places to take my kiddos to during our trip. Highly recommend checking her out!!

Thanks very much for booking through Adventure IO and sharing your feedback. We agree - Suzie's workouts are next-level! Glad to hear you had a good time and hope to see you out there on another Adventure soon! - AIO

Good idea with weak implementation

The idea is great. I myself had thought about organizing adventure trips as there is a lack of specialized services and the ones that are there are not that good. However: very limited options currently available. Some of them ridiculously expensive, i.e. road biking for more than $400: you provide the bike, your own food and provisions and you ride on a normal open road. So why not just use WikiLoc or another guiding/tracking app. Yes, it is good to have the local knowledge but more than 400 bucks per person... Finally, I asked about an adventure that was on the app but I was not able to see calendar availability. I contacted the organizer, replied which adventure?, I explained, never heard from them again

Developer Response ,

Thanks so much for your interest in Adventure IO and we certainly appreciate the feedback! In regards to messaging, it appears you may have replied to an automated email notification (sent when a guide messages you) as opposed to responding to the guide using our messaging feature. As a result the guide did not receive your response. We are adjusting our email notifications to help prevent this mistake in the future. Concerning pricing - all of the prices in the app are set by the Guides based upon their costs for hosting the Adventure. Most of the experiences in the app are listed as a total cost for group pricing for up to certain number of people. We have several cycling and mountain biking Adventures in the app that are less than $400 and include up to 4 participants. Thanks again for your feedback! - AIO

Don’t hire unlicensed guides

This doesn’t apply to all activities, I understand, but guides are required to have a permit or license to operate on public lands in most places. It also requires a hefty insurance policy. It takes experience and credentials to obtain a permit, and in some places it’s nearly impossible. Hiring someone from an app like this does not guarantee you are hiring someone with adequate experience or an operating plan to keep you safe. Oftentimes you are trusting your life with them. Folks who sell “experiences” on apps like this are usually subverting specific public policy that is designed to protect you, the environment, and the sanctity of the guiding profession. It is also highly ethical. It is in your best interest to ask for proof of licensing/permitting and insurance before hiring a guide, because apps like this aren’t doing the vetting for you.

Developer Response ,

Hello and thank you for your comment. As current and former professional athletes with decades of experience in the outdoor and action sports industries, we take great pride in the quality of the guides and experiences offered through the Adventure IO app. Our guides are highly vetted by our credentialing committee, as well as background checked for safety assurance. AIO guides are expected to carry all proper licenses and permits associated with their particular Adventure offerings, and are insured by Adventure IO’s liability policy during each and every AIO booking.

Skill levels for Adventures are clearly outlined in the app, and users are encouraged to reach out to guides via in-app messaging for any additional questions or concerns before booking. It is the guide's duty to asses participants skill levels and proceed with Adventures accordingly.
