I just picked up an AeroPress for the first time, and I have to say that I was quite skeptical about how good it would really be. I had similar questions about this app. Turns out the AeroPress is a fantastic single-cup coffee brewer, and this app is a great companion to make sure you are using it properly.Let me just say that while I LOVE the AeroPress, I'm still a bit of a skeptic that the different brewing techniques make that much of a discernible difference. Can you taste the difference between steeping for 20 seconds and stirring versus a 60 second soak on a coarser grind? Maybe, maybe not, but it's fun to try. More importantly, the app and its series of instructions and timers are sort of like a flight manual making sure that you incorporate all the necessary steps, and don't do anything that will completely throw off the brewing process. There's probably a few dozen recipes here, and some useful instructions on traditional vs. inverted method, grinding techniques, and water temperature. As others have noted, it would be nice to have even a 5 star rating system so I could remind myself (or see other users' opinions) of how much I liked or disliked a particular method. But it's a neat little app and it's a convenient tool to always have with you, particularly since AeroPress is so useful on-the-go.
I have [nearly] nothing but praise for this wonderful companion to my favorite brewing method. The AeroPress Timer offers a wide variety of brewing methods/recipes (27 in all) that are sure to take your brewing game to the next level. I’ve been faithfully using it since purchasing it several months ago.Despite my enjoyment of the app and continuous use I do have one complaint. Though not enough to warrant rating the app at 4 stars, I think it’s worth mentioning anyhow. I would like to see the app updated more often and have newer recipes added to its arsenal. Here it is, January 2016, and the most recent recipes in the app are from the 2014 World AeroPress Championships. I think that there are a variety of different recipes that could be added (from the 2015 WAC as well as other years) that would greatly improve the app. Recipes from well-respected and well-known roasters as well as more recent competition recipes would make this app one of, if not the best of its kind. All in all it is a wonderful app, and I highly recommend it to any AeroPress owner. Some may be put off by its price, but in my opinion it gives you 27 cups of coffee for a little more than the price of one cup at most coffee shops. To sum up, buy it!
This app is a GREAT idea. The way it’s laid out is great. The functionality is great. There are three main problems. Firstly, I have discovered that MANY of the recipes are not recorded correctly. In clicking the links to the source for the recipe, the grams of coffee are often wrong, the grind size can be wrong, and other details as well. The recipe link is right in the app. These are easily verifiable mistakes. Secondly, it would be nice to have the option to edit existing recipes. Taking for granted that the recipes are correct, it would be nice to be able to make changes. Finally, it would be lovely to have a little more flexibility on the options you can include for making your own recipe. For instance, I have a recipe I like from the 2017 World AeroPress Competition winner, and she adds water to the coffee after it has been plunged and brewed. There’s no way for me to add that in the app. Maybe include a function where you can type in your own instruction instead of having to rely solely on the instruction items provided in the app. I want to love this app so badly. But inaccurate recipes? I actually can’t use this app now. I have to find the original recipes to get the correct data. Accurate, verified recipes, and a little more flexibility/customization would make this PERFECT.
This app is great and will change your life when it comes to an Aeropress. I feel like I'm walking behind the bar at a coffee shop and picking something off the menu and making it myself. Used the metric measurements for a while, but it's a little complicated. Go with simple. Finally, one change I would like, a personal RATING system for the different types of brews. There are so many I can't keep track of which ones I like and don't like. If I could just get a simple 1-5 star report for MYSELF on the various brews that would be AWESOME.Update: Got an Apple Watch and was excited to use this app with it, but it is TERRIBLE. A) it has NO vibrations/dings to let you know when to change actions. B) if you stop looking at your watch the screen goes black and then when you look again the timer gets all screwy and then you have no idea where you're at in the brew or what our supposed to be doing or how much you're supposed to pour. The iPhone app is great, but if I could rate the Apple Watch app I'd give it zero stars because it's not even worthy to be called an app.
I really love this app when starting out using the AeroPress. The built in recipes are really easy to follow. And it makes it really easy to get a great quality cup even as a beginner. Much easier than doing a pour over. There is one thing I would like fixed, and that is I would like to have the create or add a recipe with as much detail as the built in recipes do. For example most built-in recipes will tell you how much water to add during a pour step, but when you are adding in a recipe you can only put in the amount of time in a pour step not the amount of time and amount of water being poured. This is bad if there maybe more than one pour step in a recipe and with each step there are differing amounts. Also the conversions don’t quite work well. And lastly editing a added recipe is not available. If you are putting in a new recipe you can go back in some parts during the add in process and edit but if you make a mistake in the steps section you cannot fix it, and have to start from the beginning. And if you want to edit your recipe later after creating it, you would have to either trash the old one and create a whole new recipe or keep the old one and create an entire new one with a new name. So for $5 the app provides you with access to some great recipes, however the customization portion of the app is quite lacking for $5.
As a newcomer to using the AeroPress I was looking for an app that could help me look for recipes and give me a chance to enter in my own. The interface of using one of the pre-load recipes is very well designed and works quite well, taking you step by step through the brewing process. The one thing that is frustrating me is that when I try to enter in my own recipe or one that I have found, the app crashes and force closes. This is MAJOR drawback to the app, especially given that I paid for it.Along those lines, here are a few things I would like to see added to the app. More in depth instructions for harder recipes, backgrounds on the brewing method/who made them, and videos to show how each recipe is done for reference. Overall 6/10 Needs improvement but not the worst thing out there
