The Air Display Host software requires an Intel-based Mac. (Sorry, intrepid M1 thrill-seekers!)
Air Display turns your iOS screen into a wireless (or wired) display for your Mac.
“Whether you’re a MacBook owner with an occasionally need to expand the desktop while on the road or a Mac Pro user who can never have enough screens, Air Display 3 is a cost-effective way to add up to four displays using devices you already own.” —Macworld
“You have a bunch of different options to turn your iPad into a second display, but we prefer Air Display as the easiest option.” — Lifehacker
Increase your productivity with extra screen real estate, or mirror your Mac computer display to your iOS device. (Sorry Windows users, Air Display is just for Macs.)
For best results, connect via USB for buttery smooth graphics performance.
Air Display has two components: this iOS app and a separate free host app that you install on your Mac.
Wi-Fi or USB — You can connect wirelessly. And for even faster, more reliable performance, you can connect your iOS device and Mac via the USB charging cable.
Pressure Sensitivity — Use an Apple Pencil, a third-party pressure-sensitive pen, or even your finger to draw or paint into pressure-aware Mac apps like Photoshop and Motion.
Teleprompter Mode — Air Display can flip your screen horizontally or vertically for use with a teleprompter.
Pinch Zoom — Zoom in to magnify the screen. This is especially useful when drawing or painting details.
Multiple Monitors — Air Display connects up to 4 iPads simultaneously for powerful multi-monitor configurations.
HiDPI — Choose Normal, Retina, or HiDPI resolution to suit your taste.
Keyboard — Type using Air Display's built-in keyboard or any Bluetooth keyboard.
Touch Gestures — You can control your Mac with intuitive iOS gestures: tap or drag to operate the mouse or tap with two fingers to right-click.

Working again if you are willing to give up privacy
After reading some reviews I found a review that had the fix for Airdisplay not working properly. A security update in Catalina is the culprit. Under privacy settings you have to allow Airdisplay to be able to record your screen even when you are not using the app.
This is not Avatron’s doing but Apple’s. Good job Apple!!! I would say this is a security setback and not an update. Not worth the invasion of privacy. No reflection on Avatron, they have been updating their app.
Airdisplay is not the only app to do this either, Duet has the same setting requirements to work.
I changed my review because I thought it to be unfair to Avatron. My dissatisfaction is with Apple and I’m becoming more dissatisfied with them the longer time goes on. Apple deserves 0 stars on this one.
Two thumbs down to you Apple.

MacOS X Catalina now working well, great customer service
This app stopped working after update to Mac OS X Catalina. It would keep crashing. It turned out Apple changed security parameters in Catalina. I contacted Air Display support and they provided a simple security setting modification on the Mac which resolved the issue right away. Their customer service was prompt and helpful. Here are the steps provided by customer service:
Go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Privacy
Scroll down and select Screen Recording. You should see Air Display Host listed in a box at the right.
Enable its checkbox to allow it to "record the contents of your screen, even when using other apps." (You may need to click the little padlock and enter your password to allow the change.)
GREAT APP... (Investment)
I was looking for an app that would allow me to use my iPad Pro as a second monitor for my MacBook Pro. After doing searches and queries, I came across Air Display and discovered, as I read more about it, that it looked like the answer to my prayer. After downloading it, I had a little issue with getting it to work properly. But I reached out to Avatron via email and received immediate feedback. They instructed me in what I needed to do to get the app functioning properly and when I followed their very simple instruction, I was up and running in no time at all. This was really great because I was facing a time deadline and needed their help right away. They came through without fail and I’m very happy with my decision to purchase Air Display. 👍🏾 👍🏾
