Description
PurpleAir air quality map in a fast and simple home screen widget
See real-time air quality index (AQI) readings from PurpleAir sensors around the world.
Widgets enable you to get a map of real-time AQI readings directly on your home screen.
The Air Quality Index (AQI) tells you how clean or polluted your air is and what associated health effects might be a concern for you. This app displays AQI readings from PurpleAir, a collection of air quality sensors run by enthusiasts and air quality professionals around the world.
What’s New
Version 1.2
With this release, you can toggle between the default EPA air quality readings and the raw PurpleAir air quality numbers that you see on the PurpleAir web site.
While the EPA numbers more accurately represent US EPA air quality, so many users have asked me about the discrepancy, I wanted to provide access to both in the app.
Please keep the feedback coming!
Ratings and Reviews
Great App, but Uncertain About Data
I love having the widget and the new sensor popover is great, but I’m unclear about where the data is coming from and when it’s updated. For instance, when consulting the Purple Air web app map I often see very different readings for the same sensor. For instance, as I write this, the nearest sensor reads 76, updated at 8:33 (5 minutes ago) whereas the app reads 61 (updated 6 minutes ago according to app). Is the app pulling from a different API or is stale data? It might be helpful to have an actual date, time stamp as opposed to relative date. 6 minutes ago relative to when? That might help give some more confidence about readings in the app. The air quality in Colorado varies greatly with the wind throughout the day, so having current readings before a walk or run is very important. Overall, great effort and with some small tweaks this could be very useful.
Widgets!
Thanks for this app! Love having PA data in an iOS widget. I own a PA indoors sensor and would love to have the option of seeing that data in addition to outside sensors.
If I were king for a day I’d love to see a widget option with just two data points and no map. Maybe field one a favorite sensor (ex. my indoors sensor) and then field two the closest outdoors sensor. The current implementation is still worlds better than having to navigate the PA site on an iPhone though, thanks!
Great Public Service App
It’s a simple, no strings attached, app that shows your location and nearby Purple Air sensors. Your choice of EPA AQI or Purple’s. It even has widgets for at a glance data. Really simple app and great implementation using Apple Maps and sensor data isn’t obscured by your location dot. Thank you for coding this!!! 💙
