Ratings and Reviews
Good, but not on multiple devices
When I first got Airmail on my iMac, I loved it. It's powerful, quick, organized and works well with other accounts. I read that they had an iPad app as well, and that it syncs will with other devices...not so much. I installed it on my iPad Mini 4, and noticed right away, that email that I deleted on one device, were still on the other. That's just a lot of unnecessary repetition. Their tech support said to empty the cache, which I've done a couple times now...doesn't help. If I'd known is be doing double the work on my devices, I wouldn't have paid for the apps. UPDATE - I came back going the updates would have fixed the problems. Right away I noticed the problem was still there. After many ridiculous back and forth messages, they came back with 'Gmail syncs, POP3 doesn't'. This is a common feature on other apps, don't know why they can't do it.
UPDATE #2: This app has become worthless after the iOS 11 update. I can't long press one email, then just select all the ones I want to delete. Now I have to swipe each individual one, and that gets seriously tedious when you have over 100 emails to go through. Another new problem is, about once a week emails I've sent to the trash a month ago start popping back up in my inbox. I'm done with this app. Dev should fire their programmers.
Loaded with features
Airmail’s strongest attraction is its customizability. It can be tweaked to suit the user’s tastes in look and feel. Because there are several settings, it can take a while to learn the full range, but it is worth taking the time to experiment. I found that going to the app’s website and reading the documentation useful. At the website a pop-up window offers the opportunity to chat in real time with a helper. I chatted with Steven, whose response to my question was prompt, helpful and courteous. The iOS app by itself is very good, but I recommend pairing it with the MacOS counterpart for maximum benefit. My inboxes have a tendency to accumulate more emails than I can easily manage. Airmail makes sorting messages into folders easy and also allows “snoozing” messages—getting them out of sight for a specified amount of time. Snoozed messages are put into a special folder that can be opened at any time in Airmail itself or in other mail clients. Alternatively, a message can be instantly transferred to a “To do” folder to be acted upon later, or one of several other temporary folders. There is also a quick-response option to let a sender know with a single tap on an icon that the message has been received and read.
Most of the features are hidden
I want to use this mail client but the design defeats the features. For example, take Snooze an email so it comes back later, you have to slide the email to the left, past the Delete option, open the Actions, then select the Action, then select the option you want for that action. Painful. Sliding left is awkward, sliding past the delete feels precarious, then you open the Actions and then hit Snooze, THEN get some Options like come back in a week. It's too many steps to use routinely so I've never really started using the Actions. Apple loves hidden features these days (try deleting multiple photos in Photos) so its no wonder it won the Design Award but hiding things really makes occassional ordinary tasks difficult. It's not intuitive, it's hidden until you know the secret steps which is the definition of bad UI. Frustatingly filled with promise but who wants to spend their time learning more about email? Email is like the soles of shoes - necessary but really, how much time do I want to spend thinking about the soles of my shoes?
