Description

Unlike other apps, Airport Guide is designed for pilots to aid in flight planning by answering questions such as what airport has a paved runway at least 4000 feet long above 5000 feet MSL in the state of California between 100 and 150 miles of Los Angeles. With Airport Guide, you get the full AirportGuide.com database to search on the go with 50,000+ landing facilities. Most Airport Guide for Pilots features can be used offline so you can research the airport, perform E6B calculations with one of the many aviation calculators, and reference the aviation Book library. If you happen to be online, you can also use the handy Find Nearby Airports button on the home page to immediately show the nearest fields to your location using your GPS coordinates. As with all search results, this list can be filtered to show only public airports in case you are in the air and need to know your options to land quickly.

After performing a search, you can save any airports as a Favorite and it will show on the home page when you open the app to immediately tell you the latest weather (VFR, MVFR, IFR, LIFR). Select the airport and get key airport information such as the latest METAR, location, comm frequencies, runway info, FBOs, and fuel. You can even rate and review the airport to help your fellow pilots. If you have ever flown into an airport and needed a car or hotel, look no further than the booking links at the bottom of each airport screen to get you set up with lodging and transportation in no time. If you are looking for things to do in the area, just click on the Things To Do button to book attractions with an e-ticket sent to your phone.

375+ Airport Terminal Maps are here! View your location in the terminal and see where gates and services are located.

Data Disclosure
---------------------
The airport database is the same one used on AirportGuide.com and is constantly being updated. However, new database releases are usually made approximately every 4 weeks and will show as a database update within the app settings. The airport database has been evolving for more than 25 years with data from the FAA, DAFIF, and many international AIP sources. While we strive for perfection, the airport data changes quite frequently, and is not guaranteed to be 100% accurate at any given time. Airport Guide is a very useful resource for pilots but please consult official data sources when planning your flight.

Feedback and Support

We encourage feedback from data issues to user interface issues to new suggestions. With your help, this app will only get better with time. Thanks!

Great app! Simple yet powerful search

After reading the previous comments I decided to play around with the search capabilities. The types of searches you can do are quite impressive so I would not pay attention to the previous review of too many results. The user just didn’t try the other searches.
One thing I would like to mention are the aviation calculators. They are so much better than using an E6B and I like how you can switch between units as well.
Keep up the good work!

Needs work

If you put three-letter airport codes into tr search term, it ignores them and instead searches for words that have those three letters. For example, a search for MEX doesn’t bring up Mexico City, but instead yields tons of results such as “Mexico Farms Maryland” and “Mexico Missouri”. Seriously? This app is for pilots?

Developer Response ,

I understand your frustration but this was a design trade that had to be made. There are over 50,000 airports in Airport Guide and only a handful of those have IATA codes. The decision was made for the BASIC SEARCH to allow people to search by ID (local, FAA, ICAO, IATA, etc.), name, city, state, and/or country. If a person did not know an ID they would still be able to find the airport using one of these other types of searches. Also, after your search for "MEX", you could just type in the filter box at the top of the results. Type in Mexico City and 2 airports show up.

There are also 3 other types of searches; Advanced Search, Radius Search, and Find Nearby Airports. If you used the Advanced Search, you could have typed "MEX" in the IATA ID search field and found your result directly. In summary, the search capabilities are extremely powerful and probably a lot more than anyone needs. For fun, try a search by lat/long or see all fields within 10 miles of a location with a runway at least 5000 feet long. If you have any other questions, please ask.

Kind of a scam

Ok I just got the app and bought the enhanced map. I go to look at Dulles airport there is nothing there that I couldn’t see on the Dulles airport site for free actually it was less and for that they charged me. Stupid this is only good for finding gate numbers which most airports have on their web pages. Very disappointed I was hoping it would at least give restaurants, bathrooms, and airline club locations.

Developer Response ,

Hi there,
Sorry to hear you had this trouble but the maps work as intended and you can see the restaurants.

On the map screen verify you are looking at Map and not Satellite then click on "Layers" in the upper right portion of the screen. Turn off the "Terminal" layer (the building outlines) and you will see all of the businesses in the airport straight from the Apple Maps database along with a blue pulsing dot showing where you are in the map. Operating this way means the businesses are more up to date than if that data was maintained within the app itself.

Also, the Terminal layer is active during the initial map load since there are airports in the world where this vector information is not drawn in on the maps. I hope this helps!
