Only negative thing I have noticed in the short time I have played this new version is that the ‘void’ where you discard elements is literally right next to where items spawn in when you click them. This means when you drag another item on top if you are not accurate it will be deleted in the void. This issue could be easily resolved by simply spawning in items slightly left and down from the void instead of right next to it. Cool concept, but...

I've already played Doodle God, so I knew how to start creating elements right off the bat. However, the interface killed any enjoyment I could have had playing: while the creation screen starts out simple enough, with only 4 elements, it can quickly become cluttered as more and more are discovered. The little black hole in the corner that you can drag unneeded elements into to destroy them helps with this somewhat, but the playing field can still become too crowded too easily. Selecting elements also becomes a chore after so many are made; I only got my number up to 10 or so, I'd hate to have to slide through more than 250 of them! On a different note, the music wasn't fitting (not mystic-sounding enough!) and I found it annoying. The text could also use some editing, as there are misspellings and grammar errors scattered about. I do like how users can send in ideas for new elements though.By the way, some of the images used for elements are copyrighted. You might get in trouble for that!For those looking for an alternative to this game, I recommend Doodle God (or one of its variants). Same concept, better execution.

A bit too frustrating

After buying and playing this game for several weeks, I’ve given up. Too many of the combinations are not intuitive or logical. And while I understand there is included the element of fun and whimsy, it is difficult to advance when you must repeatedly try each new element with all the others - every time- just to discover the odd combination. Also, I tried to purchase hints to keep me going, but they never showed up in the game. The graphics are excellent, far and above all other similar games. However, the playing screen ( on the phone) is small and restrictive allowing too few elements at a time while still having your list in view. Unless you move them under your scroll list, you are limited. Also, unlike other such games, you can make the same combinations over and over again. Not a bad thing except when your screen is full as you try new combinations and inadvertently make something you’ve already made and didn’t intend or want to make again. I was sad to delete the game because I had such high hopes. But, as I said, it became too frustrating.

Great Game, Great Potential

So, I guess my review should be asterisked by saying that I was "de-virginized" to Alchemy on a friend's Kindle. On his version, there were about 100 more elements to discover. Where this "only" has about 240, I kind of find the app a tad lacking in that area. However, that does nothing to distract from the interest level that the iDevice version holds. In fact, in reading others' reviews, it seems that there are elements in this version that don't exist elsewhere. It's enthralling to "discover" a new element, and then find what that element can make when mixed with other elements! My only hope is that future releases will allow for many more elements. I'm happy with the 240 in the game as it is, but, as with just about any other app, I want more! :)

When me and my older sister got our first iPod Touch (maybe 3rd gen), the original Alchemy was one of the first games we downloaded. Recently I was perusing the App Store and I saw this. We have been playing it for a couple of days now competing to complete more elements. It’s nostalgic and more importantly, it’s fun. It’s a great game for filling small amounts of time. Like using the bathroom or when you’re awkwardly sitting somewhere waiting for someone, and your social media is gettin’ stale. Be warned:Sometimes you get stuck, you won’t know what to combine. Just keep trying, and think about the ones you have in different ways. It is super satisfying when you get a new one that can be used in like a million different ways, like Life.
