Fine, but underwhelming and inferior to the original.

Alto’s Adventure was one of the first games I ever played and god what an adventure it was. Beautiful landscapes, incredible gameplay, and deep contemplative beautiful soundtracks. Odyssey does not live up to this. Even with the addition of the lost city as a part of this game being on the arcade, odyssey still lacks a certain authenticity and atmosphere intrinsic to the first game. Namely the soundtrack is not nearly as touching or well done as the first game’s was. Odyssey’s soundtrack is perfectly fine to listen to while playing the game, but I would never listen to it alone, compared to Adventure’s soundtrack which I would enjoy simply sitting down and listening to. In terms of gameplay little changes between Adventure and Odyssey. Wall riding and other elements like pool dives are nice, but appear far too little to add that much to your gameplay experience. Especially since wall riding rarely appears, if at all, outside of the canyon lands. All this being said, there are some upsides to the game. Namely, the new biomes add variety to the terrain and gameplay, and while the scenery isn’t as nice as the original, it’s still pretty to look at. Overall, this sequel is much of the same and worth getting if you’ve not played the original game, but if you have this game will be less of an experience than the original and therefore is not worth getting.
Spectacular, but lacking

Let me preface this review by saying that I’ve loved the Alto series for many years—from the classic Alto’s Adventure to the beloved sequel Alto’s Odyssey, and now The Lost City. Each game has always amazed me with its beautiful graphics and stunning execution. And while The Lost City is no different, I feel as if it could have been more.Don’t get me wrong. The Lost City biome is without a doubt the most complex and gorgeous one. But with years in between the releases of Odyssey and The Lost City, I just think the developers could have done a little more. For example, instead of slowly surfing into the new biome, it would have been awesome if Alto tried to jump a chasm that was too large to physically cross, and when she fell into it, you would actually enter The Lost City. That would have been an even more majestical experience in my opinion. Some people have nit-picked, saying the fact that the game pauses your music is just unacceptable, and it’s why they rate the game 1 star. That’s silly, in my opinion. I do have a criticism, though. Luckily, you can transfer your Odyssey progress into the game. However, I wish you could do that in reverse. I recently reset my Odyssey progress and after grinding on The Lost Kingdom to get to the new biome, I’m actually at a higher level on TLK than I am on Odyssey. I still rated this game 5 stars because at the end of the day, this is one of the best games out there. I just feel that there was a missed opportunity here.
Great, but with some bugs that interfere with gameplay

This game is one of the first games that I downloaded on my phone. I was immediately blown away by the soundtrack, graphics, and simple controls. I’ve been playing it since it came out, and have reached the top 1% in the point total and combo multiplier areas. I love playing the game, and it is the only blue game that I feel is worth playing after you finish some important milestone or completion beyond other Alto products. That said, I have been experiencing a bug where the lemur glitches of the ground sometimes and is not consistently touching the surface realistically, i.e running inter a grind before the game corrects itself as the lemur drifts back into place. Also, when the ground leaves the screen from a steep hill or other phenomena and the lemur catches up to me, the lemur appears in the air. One time when this happened, the lemur actually knocked me off my board. I am aware of this mechanic, but I would love to see this bug fixed so I don’t have to worry about it anymore. Also, I would love to see more attention payed to the game, as it has a lot more potential. Even moderately sized updates would be nice. Again, this game is amazing and I love its simple quality. I would love to see what team Alto does next, if anything at all. Thanks for reading this review, devs.
Great until goals became way too hard.

I’ve enjoyed playing this game for quite a long time now. And it’s a great game, which is why I rate it 4 stars. However, being at level 41 I believe now, the remaining goal for me to reach level 42 is to wing suit through 3 waterfalls in a single run, which in my opinion is nearly impossible, but it’s obviously doable, as I read a review from someone who I think reached level 46. Part of the problem I’ve discovered with using the wing suit (once you purchase it in the game) is that in order to activate it, it seems you have to do way too many trick combos (and not just do a ton of them, but do them one after the other). As you do trick combos, your scarf lengthens, with the hope that the wing suit icon will appear on the screen for you to tap and use. But sadly, your scarf length shortens if you don’t keep doing the trick combos one after the other. It’s frustrating to lose all of that progress in lengthening your scarf in order to activate the wing suit, only to have to start all over again if you don’t keep up quickly in doing the combo tricks. Another problem with the wing suit is that once it does activate (and the icon appears on the screen), it’s only on the screen briefly and shortly disappears. I think it might reappear at a later time during the run, but for me, at this stage of the game, I need to wing suit through 3 waterfalls in a single run! Not all scenes have waterfalls. As a result, you have to hope that the wing suit icon appears on the screen when you near a waterfall scene, and then hope you wing suit through 3 of them! This goal of wing suiting through 3 waterfalls in one run is way too difficult in my opinion. I’m all for challenging goals, as challenge is good. But please do not make the goals nearly impossible, which only leads to frustration in playing the game, which takes away the enjoyment of playing it (thus the reason for me deleting the game). I’ll consider re-downloading it if these issues I pointed out ever get addressed. Definitely a bummer, as I really did enjoy playing this game, and I’ll miss playing it 🙁
