Come on amcrest

Bought the hub and 2 battery cameras. Was pretty easy to setup. Does have some issues with the mic and speakers. Mic on one camera only works about 1 out of every 5 times I’ve enabled and the speaker on the other has a humming sound. Have not powered off by pulling the battery but hope that clears it up. Not a deal breaker cause not real concerned with speaking or hearing so much. Video is real good overall. Now to the app. It works but lacks some common features. Please add the ability to create motion activation zones. Who wants to get 500 alerts a day when a car drive down the road. Also, give me the ability to download a recorded video to my phone or upload to google drive. Seems the only way to do this is by using their cloud service which does have a free option but sounds like they are just trying to force you into a subscription. 3 stars for hardware and app. App alone soft 2.

Thanks for the update that allows downloading sd card recordings. Only issue is you have to be on the same WiFi as the hub to download. So you still can’t download while away from your home. One other thing that would be nice is when I get an alert it should tell me which camera the alert is coming from instead of always saying from hub. Maybe there is a way to change this but I’ve been unable to find. Thanks

App needs AI - object classification

The app is surprisingly good considering the price of the cameras. I have an ADC2W cameras and what the app sorely needs are the following: 1) ability to clear one or more motion detection squares once you set them; clearing everything to start over is more than inconvenient 2) on-device AI, specifically in-video object classification (human vs. animal vs. vehicle) and the ability to record motion of humans and animals but not vehicles; also AI classified audio alerts (people talking vs. dog barking vs. car noise) where AI would scan the audio and alert based on what it hears 3) better video cutting on the SD card; it currently records way too much before the motion occured; clips tend to have about a minute or two before anything occured; waste of SD space and also time to skim through the video looking for action; 4) quick GIF style clips of motion detected for each alert, so that you don’t have to watch the entire video 5) Live video feed on the main page, without having to click on a particular camera

Needs some work

I have several Amcrest cams and an NVR. So far, only the doorbell cam requires this app for setup and for answering the bell with two way audio and one way video. Setup of the doorbell through this app does not provide any means of configuring the doorbell cam’s features important to NVR users. Specifically lacking are video encoding options and specifying a static IP address of your own choosing (to avoid conflict with your DHCP pool range).

Answering the bell from the Amcrest Smart Home app is tricky. For it to work, the app must have been force closed prior to the bell ring and after tapping on the ring event notification, one must wait for the video feed to start before tapping the answer icon. Any deviation from these steps results in a failure.

When viewing the doorbell’s live feed, the “talk” feature in this app produces “failed to talk” every time, regardless of whether “listen” is active or not. Talking via this app only works if a bell call has successfully been answered through it. Oddly enough, the Amcrest View Pro app (which has no bell answering function and cannot perform initial setup) is able to both listen and talk via the live feed of the doorbell cam, if you’ve added the doorbell directly to that app as well.

Fixing the call answering function and the talk during live feed functions would earn the app one more star in my opinion. Adding IP address and video encoding options would earn it the other star.
