Apple News 12+

We’re obviously living in tense times. Unfortunately, I’ve received several op-ed’s which are seemingly presented as news articles, instead opinion in my feed recently (or at least I’ve missed the distinction). They aren’t clearly marked (which is possibly the fault of the news source).

I’ve reported one or two articles as false information; but truly it falls more into the purview of propaganda bc of the manipulation of words and & the slinging the accusation of racism while being racist which makes it harder to report as “disinformation” even as it’s misleading. (An example of a repeat offender is frankly, The Atlantic, which I’ve requested not to be served in my feed more than once this year— their coverage feels exceptionally emotional and sensationalist. Again, an example, but this is indicative of a larger issue with American media as a whole.)

Anyway, this feedback is ultimately a suggestion/ request to add a feature to report ‘propaganda’ instead of “misinformation/disinformation”. It is also a suggestion to more clearly classify op-ed’s in this app, even if it’s mis-classified from the periodical.

I absolutely dislike this layout. Having to scroll down 20 or 30 pages to find the section I want is absurd. We need tabs similar to the app "Smart News". I can't stand how some articles take up 3/4 of a page, others take up one small row, or 2 articles take up two columns and two rows. It's like a bipolar design. A lack of a layout pattern makes it hard to scan for an article I'm interested. I equate it to using a file browser and all the files are displayed in different shapes and sizes instead of being of a similar style. Who thought this was good? And you want us to pay for this on top of it. There are some sections I don't even want. For example I can't stand listening to the news. It's a waste of my time. I can read it in 15 to 30 seconds or listen to it for 5 to 10 minutes. I don't want this sections shown. If I'm going to pay, you at the very least need to let me adjust the layout to my own preferences. I can't use this app anymore. It bugs me that much.

I will no longer pay for Apple News Plus because Apple puts Ads within the app. What is the point in paying if we still see Ads? For example, many of the articles are really ads informing us of a product that is on sales. That is not news. That is an "Ad". Apple doesn't even provide a way to remove or report these as "Ads".

Update.
I know Apple states you may get blocked topics if they're "editor picks" or whatever they call it. But now if I block an obscure news source, like GPFans, it shows up even more. The same story has been in Top Stories for days from this blocked news source. There's no way GPFans, an auto racing National Enquirer type publication, is an editor pick for the same story three days in a row. Even worse, this review is probably useless. I doubt Apple even reads reviews.

I love Apple and Apple News, but for use in the widgets area or for trying to view anything in Top Stories, it's dang near useless. You can't stop certain stories from appearing in Top Stories, even if they are topics you have blocked, and you can't stop News+ from showing up, even if you don't subscribe. There are five spots in Top Stories, or six if you count the podcast story at the bottom, which I don't use and can't get rid of. Out of these limited spots, two are usually blocked topics (what's the point of giving me that option?) and one or two are News+ so I can't even see them. If I go into the News app, about every third story is News+, or I get whole sections of stories I can't access. It didn't used to be like this, and I don't know what changed but I'm done now. It's finally pushed me to just start using Google news instead.
