Only call, not text like they say
Now this is a “small” issue to most people, but not for me. I travel to a lot of different places. Just in the past week, I was in England-France-Italy. I am now in Italy and I realize my photos were blurry. At this point, I didn’t realize that the optimize photos setting was turned on. I log out of cloud and log back in, all those photos that were optimized are not on the cloud which it won’t even tell me how to get it. May I mention I have no service where I am and I cannot call. I needed to chat with text in the app because I’m on WiFi. They say you can chat, but you cant. It’s only call.
Wasted hours, not a single problem solved
Apple chat Support (and I can’t use their phone support right now as I’m outside of the US) is an absolute disaster. I wasted hours of my life talking to their representatives without getting a solution to any of the problems I had with my Apple products. It’s like the support people don’t even read your messages, because once you describe your problem they offer you a summary of what they think the problem is... and it’s wrong every single time. You have to type and type and type explanations and send them screenshots and what not. Then they suggest you restart apps and devices, which of course is the first thing I’d try myself first, before addressing the support. Also, the time between their responses can be up to 5 minutes!! What are they doing over there if it takes them 5 minutes to write a single sentence??! Then when you start doing something else because it’s taking forever, they disconnect because you haven’t replied to them within a few minutes. Absolutely furious with the quality altogether. Ended up fixing several system issues that arose on my iPad after I installed iOS 13 (which is the buggiest piece of software I’ve ever seen) by myself by just experimenting. By the way, if you installed iOS 13 and your device stopped feeding your location data to different apps despite having permissions on, just reset Location & Privacy in General settings.
So many problems that are “working as designed”
Basically this is an amazing example of terrible UX, you can use this as an example when teaching college students what an example of backend UX looks like. ONE: If your internet connection cuts out (for instance if you are riding the subway), for some reason you are not allowed to continue typing — every other app just won’t send when there’s no connection but this app just refuses to let you finish the sentence you are currently typing. There is no reasonable excuse for this. TWO: if you are in a foreign country and you contact support, for some reason the AI thinks your location picks the language and not your Apple ID. Seriously just because I’m in France right now does not mean I am fluent in French. Who “designs” this nonsense??!? THREE: “We’ll send you notifications when messages are sent” ... this is mostly false. You probably will not get notifications and the representative on the chat will end the chat.
