I was looking for a new calorie tracker and this one seemed great. It had good reviews and linked to some other apps I use. I went ahead and paid for a month of Pro so I could access more features. I found that simple items from Costco were not in their database. It seems to be more UK based. I double checked my settings to make sure I had English (USA) as my language as it said to do. I also tried to add an item and it kept saying “server error” after inputting everything which was frustrating because it didn’t save anything and took time to add. Also it offered to scan the nutrition label but then didn’t read it right at all. I wish I could get my money back. That’s another thing- they should have had a free trial so that if it didn’t work for me I would not be charged $8.99. Learned my lesson!

Thank you for letting us know about your experience with Arise calorie counter. We appreciate your honesty and understand your frustration. Keeping our food database updated is important to us so it's great that you brought this to our attention, and we will be sharing your feedback with our developers. We will also be looking into the technical issue that you mentioned. This is usually solved by updating Arise as this restores connection with the server, but we do understand that it's inconvenient. Thank you once again for bringing this to our attention and we wish you the best.

  • Pretty but database is lacking, pro details nonexistent

I've downloaded several food tracker apps to use and compare. I'm willing to pay for Pro service if it offers the right features at the right price; I'm not expecting to get everything I want for free. That said, the reviews for ARISE made me hopeful, as did the beautiful interface and integration with HealthKit. But when I tried to add my first food item I discovered the database is horribly incomplete. Only very basic food items are included, such as "Chips." So I tried adding something every other app's database includes— a "ThinkThin Creamy Peanut Butter Bar." Nothing came up. I tried "ThinkThin"... nothing. I tried "Think thin"... I get 1 hit for "Think thin Barry (sic) oatmeal." (Apparently it's a user-added food, and since it's hand-typed and misspelled I'd be hesitant to trust the data.) There's no scanner so I have to manually enter the item. The app allows me to enter quantity in oz only, not "bar" or "g" and I can't enter 2.1 oz because there's no decimal option for that field. Further, I can only enter Protein, Carbs, and Fat. So... what if I'm trying to track net carbs? Do I input that instead? But my entry goes into the app's public (user) database and the field is labeled "Carbs" not "Net Carbs." In other words, user added food data isn't likely to be accurate or reliable. I don't know if an upgraded food database is included in the Pro subscription because there are no details as to what's included with Pro, only weight loss promises. The Developer's website is not in English, with no option to switch languages. After actually using this app I'm sorry to say I don't trust all the positive "reviews." I give it a Big Thumbs Down.

  • Thank you for the update (sarcastic)

Had to reinstall the app, all data gone now. Good that I am using it only for three days. But up to now disappointed, though purchased a year subscription. Why I cannot preview how many calories I consumed on previous days? Only shows if you exceeded or not your daily limit? I guess it is obvious that if you control your calories intake you want to know how many you consumed before???Updated! Overall quite good app, I would still prefer more user friendly stats as how many calories I consumed on previous days, and charts that are more easily readable, as currently it’s not informative for me.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Arise calorie counter. We do apologize for the inconvenience of the missing data - at Arise, we only store users’ data on their individual phone apps, as this is the most effective way to protect data security. In addition, we’ve noted your feedback on the calories consumed. Because the "calorie deficit" is a very important part of weight loss, we focus on this rather than the amount of calories consumed in a day. This is because, as body weight changes, calorie needs also change, so consuming the same amount of calories may stop causing weight loss after a few months, when the body adapts to the new weight. However, your feedback is very valuable to us and we will be sharing it with our Developers. We hope this helps that that you achieve your fitness goals with us!

I feel grateful for the support from this app. I normally don’t connect and motivate we’ll w digital devices, however, your app has motivated and encouraged me to get back on track!I do not understand the joy points and wish there was somewhere I cauldron find a better explanation of how those work.I also wish your site would allow me to plug in info on a given day after the fact. Sometimes I write food intake down in my planner and am unable to get it in the app in time. Thanks for what is working to help me reach my goal!

    Developer Response

Thanks for your feedback. Joy points are a percentage of your saved calories. They should be used once per week, so that the body does not go into energy-saving mode. Please click on the calendar on the top right of the "today" screen to adjust your entries for already completed days. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact our friendly support team: support@abnehm-app.de

I wish I had realized that this app focuses on low fat instead of carbs. It’s very hard to add a food. I paid my subscription and I should have only done one month to try it. It’s not as easy to use as other apps. Now I’m stuck with this for a whole year, even though “you can cancel any time”. I want a refund. There is no way to communicate with them either. This was a big mistake!!! Note, I give this one star. It would not accept my review unless I gave it five stars!

    Developer Response

We're sorry to hear that you've been disappointed by your experience with the Arise calorie counter. What you describe does sound frustrating and we're here to help. I've already checked with our Support team and seen that there is an answered query that matches the description in your review - if you wouldn't mind checking your Spam folder, it could be in there! We also understand that our users may have different ways of losing weight that suit them the best. Arise supports calorie counting without omitting any specific food groups, as this is seen to be effective in the long term without being restrictive - however, since Arise PRO tracks macros, many of our users who like to keep a higher protein/lower carb intake have seen success with us. We do hope that this was helpful as we want to offer our users a positive experience with us, and we wish you the best of luck with your fitness goals!

  • Barcode reader is extremely poor

    AppleUserID18

Immediately on downloading I tried to scan some common foods, such a bread Aldi always carries, a common brand of canned salmon, and finally JIF peanut butter. None of these were recognized by the barcode scanner, and the result was a message that not every food has a barcode entered yet. For the price of this subscription, I expect a decent database of food. These are common foods, not rare oddities. This is a dealbreaker for me. Other apps manage to recognize these foods. I’m not going to manually enter everything I eat. Hopefully, the developers will improve their database and barcode scanner because it’s very poor compared to several other apps I’ve tried.

    Developer Response

Thank you for your review of Arise calorie counter! We understand your frustration that not all foods are readable by the barcode scanner. If the Food Database seems to lack some basic options, please check the region at which your Food Database is set to ensure that it offers the most relevant foods for your weight loss journey. To change this, go to Settings → Food database → Database Language and choose a language from those currently available. We aim to keep our food database up to date so as to make our app as user-friendly as possible, which is why we also allow our users to manually upload new food in seconds.
