Description

ASL Speed Spell allows ASL learners to improve their fingerspelling speed. Whether you're newer to ASL or have been studying for years, this app can help learners at all levels understand fingerspelling faster and with better accuracy.

Why is this app different from the rest? Each fingerspelled word is individually recorded as its own video, so you can watch smoothly fingerspelled words at the speed of your choice. Plus, you can choose among several categories, like 'names', 'animals', and 'countries', to help add context to the word!

App Features:
- Practice fingerspelling over 500 words, each with their own video.
- Can't figure out the answer? Replay the video, or 'give up' to see what the word was.
- Adjust the speed of your practice - from Beginner all the way up to Expert.
- Choose which category of words you want to practice, so you have context behind the word.
- Forget how to sign a letter? The ‘alphabet’ page shows you each letter from multiple perspectives, including common variations.
- The Statistics page helps you keep track of your streaks, word counts, and more.
- Adjust your settings for daily practice reminders, ad settings, and more. If you hate ads, a small one-time in-app purchase removes ads from the app forever.

What’s New

Version 1.0.7

- Made it easier to see the first letter of the word for the faster speeds
- Fixed a bug which would sometimes cause 'replay' to cut off the ends of long word videos
- Other minor bug fixes and improvements

Great practice

I’ve been practing asl for a while now, and got decent at finger spelling. But reading what other people are saying has still been an issue for me (especially the T, N, and M getting mixed up.) but this app has helped me a lot, and it has enough words that it can be hard to memorize them, meaning it reduces predictability and you actually have to continue to read it out. I do still think there should be more since I got a few of the same words more than once, but I think I’ll have mastered finger spelling before it becomes too predictable. It also allows you to reduce the amount of ads for free, which I respect so much I chose to continue having a lot of ads to support the developer of this awesome app. Communication shouldn’t be monetized, and this developer knows this! 10/10

I can do this!

I’ve struggled a lot with my receptive skills and all the other Fingerspelling apps I’ve seen just flash the letters so I’m not able to see the shapes of words witch is really helpful for understanding Fingerspelling. This app doesn’t do that! My Fingerspelling receptive skills have drastically improved since starting to use this app and when my first ASL class came around I was able to understand everyone’s names without needing to ask for repetition. I feel so accomplished and proud of myself. Thank you for making this app and anyone learning ASL, SEE, or PSE, should downloaded it.

Best fingerspelling app I’ve found

I have tried them all, and this one ticks all the boxes for me. Clean, modern design, simple interface, full videos of each word in its entirety—NOT a bunch of individual unmoving handshakes strung together in an animated gif. Bonus features for me include ability to choose speed/difficulty, word length, and category! So you can tweak the dials to customize your experience to challenge yourself at the level you’re at. I recommend this app to anyone wanting to improve their fingerspelling reception skills.
