Full of great information; mediocre UI
ASU me3 is a college and career planning tool, allowing high school aged students an interactive platform to explore academic paths and which jobs a certain path feeds into. The app begins by showing the user multiple pairings of photos, and the user selects which photo from each pair is more compelling to them. At the conclusion, the user is matched to career paths based on their inclinations and the app displays options for majors to study that lead to said career path. This process is quick and accurate, in my case, as I followed the instructions and the career paths that were presented to me were all variations of my current profession – a job that I love. Me3 continues by allowing the user to map out the most effective high school classes to take in pursuit for this new future career goal and provides a single-stop outlet for comparing different career paths and organizing a plan to reach each path. This app would have been a great resource years ago when I was in high school.
While I appreciate the concept behind this app, the navigation leaves some to be desired. It’s easy to get “lost” in the app, in the sense that it is not exceptionally clear what the next step is that a user is supposed to take – if any step. Also after reading the description of the app, I was under the impression that there would be a few interactive games to supplement the information given, but there aren’t any games. The developers should consider using different descriptors, since the current is misleading. This app is far more informatic than interactive; there’s lots of information, but it’s not “fun”.
Though, for a free app, I would still say it’s worth the download for high school kids looking for simple and accurate ways to explore career paths and college majors. The name of the app and the icon aren’t particularly relevant to the purpose of the platform, so if you do download be sure to place the app in an obviously accessible location on your phone or else the odds of you forgetting about it are very high.
