It seems like AT&T bought the old SlingTV app, because it’s just as poorly designed and implemented as that was, and it’s why I cancelled SlingTV.
The most annoying aspect is if you add a show to My Library, it’s not truly on demand. You can’t fast forward, and the app does not recognize where you were. So you have to keep the app open the entire episode, or watch it all over again if you close it. If the show begins at its regular time slot and you’re watching an episode, the one you’re watching will suddenly stop. If a glitch occurs (like suddenly giving you a gray screen that says “This content is not authorized”), you have to start the episode again. Also, if an episode is airing at another time in the next couple of days, you can’t watch it in My Library. You have to wait until it airs next, or wait 2-3 days until it becomes active.
The Help center is really bad. If you sign in to it and then try to chat, the screen closes down to a 2 line slit while you try to type something in. The refreshes itself by bumping back to the top every few seconds. Good luck trying to read a response to your query. It asks you to sign in multiple times. Clicking Contact Us throws you back into the main Help Center screen.
Do you struggle with anger issues? No? Well you will now. I downloaded this app because I was excited to be able to watch some of my favorite TLC shows from my phone. This app makes me want to throw my phone in the ocean. If you don’t want to watch live television you have to sit through 3 MINUTES of ads for what seems like every 30 seconds. Got a text from your friend right after you finished watching 3 minutes of ads? Best to let your homie think your dead or else you’ll have to sit through ANOTHER 3 MINUTES of ads. Want to close your phone then pick back up later? Cant do that! 2 reasons: 1. You guessed it more ads 2. It will completely forget where you left off or even which episode your on. Thanks! I forget to pick up my kid from school but I’ll remember which minute of which episode I’m on :))))))) oh and I don’t mind watching MORE ADS to get back to where I think I might be!!?!!!!!! You know what makes it all better tho? Sometimes when I’m 2 minutes and 45 seconds into an ad, the next ad decides to not load. Ever. At all. Close the app and try again: it will let you watch another 2 minutes and 45 seconds of ads then stop again. The. Ad. Never. Loads. I have even tried turning my phone completely off just to want to jump off a cliff when the ads stop playing after 2 minutes and 45 seconds again. Long story short: this app gives me depression but I love tlc so much so I continue to let it take years off my life. Don’t download the app. Save yourself.
Almost comically horrible!
This is AT&T, not a small company with a growing/struggling development team. How can you be a major telecommunications company and not know how to design an app?? I literally cannot even log in. It’s been a few days.
I was in the AT&T store deciding if I should switch to AT&T from Sprint. The salesperson talked up the acquisition of Direct TV and how I would have access to all these TV networks. Part of the reason I chose to switch was because I figured I could drop my cable with access to this service. It sounded great! I asked the salesperson to show me the app. I should mention that I work sales for a tech company, we have about 10 apps to use with our products. I have to know those apps inside and out to ensure that our customers have the best experience. The salesperson acted as though he had never seen the app before. He did not have it downloaded on his personal device. When he opened it in the App Store he literally laughed out loud that it had a 1.7 rating. He had no information regarding how it worked, what devices it would work on, or what the user experience was like. I was embarrassed for him and AT&T.
Needless to say I had a feeling from that experience that I would be disappointed with the app, which I am. I mean I haven’t ever been able to log in, so who knows, maybe once you can log in it’s an amazing experience... LOL Get your act together AT&T!
