Ratings and Reviews
Watch tv application can’t cast live television to the tv.
I’m huge fan of the AT&T cell phone plan that got, however the WatchTV application is sort of a kick in the face. When signing up for the WatchTV app, I was excited to find out that I could also select a free premium channel (as a part of my cellphone plan). The app interface is cool, and seems like a great idea, if you only want to stream television on your cellphone. However, if you tried to cut the cable, this app does not let you cast live television to your TV. Technically, you can cast the video content, but there is no audio. I thought that there was an issue with the application, so I contacted the AT&T chat support for help. I was informed that the AT&T representative would submit this issue to their internal team for further review. I decided to check if I would have the same issue with casting the on-demand content from the application. To my surprise, the on-demand content worked great, with absolutely no audio trouble. This is a clear sign that AT&T intentionally does not want customers to stream live TV on their television while using the WatchTV application. The fact that there is no audio while casting live television, instead of showing some kind of onscreen “no access” prompt, is probably just lazy programming. I’m not gonna do anything since I get this as a perk with my cellphone plan, but it’s not something I would suggest paying extra for.
It seems like AT&T bought the old SlingTV app, because it’s just as poorly designed and implemented as that was, and it’s why I cancelled SlingTV.
The most annoying aspect is if you add a show to My Library, it’s not truly on demand. You can’t fast forward, and the app does not recognize where you were. So you have to keep the app open the entire episode, or watch it all over again if you close it. If the show begins at its regular time slot and you’re watching an episode, the one you’re watching will suddenly stop. If a glitch occurs (like suddenly giving you a gray screen that says “This content is not authorized”), you have to start the episode again. Also, if an episode is airing at another time in the next couple of days, you can’t watch it in My Library. You have to wait until it airs next, or wait 2-3 days until it becomes active.
The Help center is really bad. If you sign in to it and then try to chat, the screen closes down to a 2 line slit while you try to type something in. The refreshes itself by bumping back to the top every few seconds. Good luck trying to read a response to your query. It asks you to sign in multiple times. Clicking Contact Us throws you back into the main Help Center screen.
AT&T has no shame
This is the worst streaming app ever. I pay a hefty amount to ATT every month. I just want decent service and we’ll-trained, motivated customer support and service. Phone support has steadily declined in quality for the past two decades. Phone coverage and data speed have improved. But their disrespect for customers grows by leaps and bounds. I feel like Charlie Brown trying to kick Lucy’s football. I get fooled every time. A while back out of the blue, they gave me a Direct TV App which included HBO not long after Comcast took it away. How nice. Then one day I couldn’t sign in. Called ATT and after spending a horrific amount of time saying “No” to changing my plan, and getting home TV I eventually found they had jerked the Direct TV App and given me Watch TV. It is useless and infuriating. You can only watch whatever happens to be on live TV on a bunch of really terrible cable channels. Try and watch a show and you get 5 minutes of show followed by 10 minutes of ads. The quality of streaming is terrible, but luckily there’s nothing worth watching. ATT, just improve support and service. Stop pretending to give your good customers perks. It’s insulting. You don’t know how to surprise and delight your customers because you really don’t want to. You don’t get it. You are the Trump of corporations.
