Ratings and Reviews
Watch tv application can’t cast live television to the tv.
I’m huge fan of the AT&T cell phone plan that got, however the WatchTV application is sort of a kick in the face. When signing up for the WatchTV app, I was excited to find out that I could also select a free premium channel (as a part of my cellphone plan). The app interface is cool, and seems like a great idea, if you only want to stream television on your cellphone. However, if you tried to cut the cable, this app does not let you cast live television to your TV. Technically, you can cast the video content, but there is no audio. I thought that there was an issue with the application, so I contacted the AT&T chat support for help. I was informed that the AT&T representative would submit this issue to their internal team for further review. I decided to check if I would have the same issue with casting the on-demand content from the application. To my surprise, the on-demand content worked great, with absolutely no audio trouble. This is a clear sign that AT&T intentionally does not want customers to stream live TV on their television while using the WatchTV application. The fact that there is no audio while casting live television, instead of showing some kind of onscreen “no access” prompt, is probably just lazy programming. I’m not gonna do anything since I get this as a perk with my cellphone plan, but it’s not something I would suggest paying extra for.
Do you struggle with anger issues? No? Well you will now. I downloaded this app because I was excited to be able to watch some of my favorite TLC shows from my phone. This app makes me want to throw my phone in the ocean. If you don’t want to watch live television you have to sit through 3 MINUTES of ads for what seems like every 30 seconds. Got a text from your friend right after you finished watching 3 minutes of ads? Best to let your homie think your dead or else you’ll have to sit through ANOTHER 3 MINUTES of ads. Want to close your phone then pick back up later? Cant do that! 2 reasons: 1. You guessed it more ads 2. It will completely forget where you left off or even which episode your on. Thanks! I forget to pick up my kid from school but I’ll remember which minute of which episode I’m on :))))))) oh and I don’t mind watching MORE ADS to get back to where I think I might be!!?!!!!!! You know what makes it all better tho? Sometimes when I’m 2 minutes and 45 seconds into an ad, the next ad decides to not load. Ever. At all. Close the app and try again: it will let you watch another 2 minutes and 45 seconds of ads then stop again. The. Ad. Never. Loads. I have even tried turning my phone completely off just to want to jump off a cliff when the ads stop playing after 2 minutes and 45 seconds again. Long story short: this app gives me depression but I love tlc so much so I continue to let it take years off my life. Don’t download the app. Save yourself.
It seems like AT&T bought the old SlingTV app, because it’s just as poorly designed and implemented as that was, and it’s why I cancelled SlingTV.
The most annoying aspect is if you add a show to My Library, it’s not truly on demand. You can’t fast forward, and the app does not recognize where you were. So you have to keep the app open the entire episode, or watch it all over again if you close it. If the show begins at its regular time slot and you’re watching an episode, the one you’re watching will suddenly stop. If a glitch occurs (like suddenly giving you a gray screen that says “This content is not authorized”), you have to start the episode again. Also, if an episode is airing at another time in the next couple of days, you can’t watch it in My Library. You have to wait until it airs next, or wait 2-3 days until it becomes active.
The Help center is really bad. If you sign in to it and then try to chat, the screen closes down to a 2 line slit while you try to type something in. The refreshes itself by bumping back to the top every few seconds. Good luck trying to read a response to your query. It asks you to sign in multiple times. Clicking Contact Us throws you back into the main Help Center screen.
