  • Ok, but had issues with billing

App is good for people who want to have a photo diary instead of count calories, but it wasn’t for me. I was charged for the trial period because I signed up a year ago and forgot, so you can only get the free trial once. Apple refunded my money since the company couldn’t do it, so 4 stars for customer service.

As I explained on the support chat, it looks like you have subscribed to the app before and took advantage of the trial already. You cannot take advantage of the free trial twice. That is why Apple initiated the charge immediately. Wish you would have waited to hear back from us first, before accusing us of wrong doing.

  • Love the new AI journal analysis. So helpful!

I have been using this app for a while and it has been a game changer. Nothing else worked for me in staying consistent and building lasting healthy habits. And now the new AI analysis helps me uncover both positive and negative behaviors that I might miss on my own. With the constant updates and their commitment to privacy, this app is well worth the few dollars a month that the subscription costs. By the way, I don’t understand why people are complaining about the subscription and calling the app a scam. Did they read the description before downloading? It clearly states that it’s a subscription app with a free trial. Did they even try the app? It’s easy to use and extremely helpful. Thank you developers!

  • Lost 70 lbs and kept it off! 🥳

    HabitsForLife

Update: Love the new smart insights. Understanding the nutritional value of meals and the connection between that and how I feel is a game changer! I am finally hitting my protein goals! ****Started using this app a few years ago. I was trying to get my health back (and yes, that included dropping some unwanted pounds that sneaked up on me) but I was struggling with being consistent. I would make progress for a couple of weeks, but wasn’t able to stick to it. AteMate really helped me with that consistency around my eating habits, sleep, and regular movement. I became a lot more attuned to what my body is asking for. When I am actually hungry vs when I just need a glass of water or some distraction. It also helped me improve on the quality of my meals and really cut back on snacking. Looking forward to see what they come up with next. And yes, it’s a subscription based app that is well worth it! It’s also nice to know that all my highly personal data is not sold to advertisers.Update: Love the new weekly AI analysis. Really helping me improve my habits. This app is such a great food tracker. 🙏

  • The photo analysis function always has negative feedback

    NosaepM

The app is fine until you use the photo anaylisis feature. It will always tell you its not good. The first few times I didnt care beacsue my meals were not as good as it could have been but even if you do the suggestions it says and you replace everything with the “better option” it still says its processed even if you made it from scratch or its high in sodium even if you used all low sodium or it not enough veggies or its high in sugar when there's no sugar. It will always says its a bad meal. I know its just suggestions but if they want you to pay for this and use this for best results that dont make it shame you for every meal you eat. I was told that my fruit bowl was “too high in processes sugar and I should try something lighter next time”!!! How much lighter van I get than a single apple with a few grapes. The only meals that got a ok result were ones where I litterly had a single grape on the picture. That's not how healthy eating works its not just eating a light as possible. I was getting so stressed trying to make the meals so they would pass this stupid analysis and its not possible or healthy.

  • Sad it’s paid now

I used this app YEARS ago and loved it. I’m on a new healthy eating journey so I wanted to redownload the app. It was cool to see they’ve added new features but I am extremely bummed to see the app is no longer free.. probably because they introduced AI, idk. ($10 a month also seems astronomical for what the app actually gives you) I don’t see that there’s an easy free version to have access to either, which I would prefer if there were just features that were locked unless you paid a subscription. Love this app, definitely still download it if you can afford it.

Thanks so much for sharing this and we’re really glad to hear you loved the app in the past. We completely understand how disappointing it can feel to come back to something familiar and see it’s changed.A few years ago, we moved to a subscription model so we could keep the app ad-free, protect user privacy, and continue improving the experience long-term. That includes adding features like deeper insights and reflections, without selling data or pushing ads.We do offer a free trial so people can explore the full app before deciding, and our annual plan is significantly discounted for those who want the lowest cost option. That said, we hear the feedback around wanting a more limited free version, and it’s something we continue to think carefully about.Either way, we truly appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts and for the kind words about what the app has meant to you.

  • Great alternative for counting calories

    EugeniaZitro

Honestly, this app is worth it. One thing I need to make clear is that it’s not free, and usually I turn away from apps with a monthly subscription. However this is one Im willing to pay for! I have a bad relationship with food and started working with a dietitian to improve my eating habits. I’ve tried counting calories and writing down my food in the past but usually end up in me obsessing, feeling guilty, and reverting back to restricting/binging. However, I wanted to find a way to still track my food and ensure I’m including more whole foods in my diets, so my dietitian recommended this app! It’s so simple to use, you snap a pic of your meal, and has a lot of different ways to reflect on your meal (why did you eat, how did it taste, where did you eat, how did you feel afterwards). This has truly helped me not only learn more about what I eat but why I eat and how I feel after that food. Not only that, but it gives you different “challenges”. Right now, I’m trying to cut back on eating out/fast food, so I’m doing the home cooking challenge. Every time I make my meal at home, I keep “on track” and if I buy food, I mark it as “off track”, really keeps me motivated to continue my streak and make more meals at home! If you having a bad history with dieting and counting calories but still want to keep some sort of accountability I would definitely give this app a try :)
