Ava is fun, easy to use, yet predictions sometimes wrong

The second month of wearing Ava, it predicted my period on the exact date on which it happened, however, later it changed my cycle as it said based on my physiological parameters it moved my cycle out. It was then showing my period to be 2 days later and it happened on the exact day I was predicting (2 days earlier). Ava gave me the wrong prediction. Also for the ovulation, it only calculates it based on when it predicts the period is. When it moved my cycle out, it moved my ovulation day two days later but it wasn’t right. I just feel that Ava is a fun tool for me as it is easy to wear and use and it gives me some information on different things about me while I am sleeping. However, I don’t feel it is useful in predicting ovulation or period. People who don’t have any fertility problems end up getting pregnant eventually and women with regular cycles always have the period around the time they expected, so it’s nothing to do with Ava if someone got pregnant or got their period when it predicted. People with no fertility issues do end up getting pregnant within a year. Maybe Ava does help some and it is definitely better than urine ovulation kits which I would never use. 🤢

Don’t waste your time

I downloaded Ava because some celebrities that I follow on Instagram have it and endorse it regularly... well now I realize they’re probably just getting paid to do so.
I’m always testing period tracker apps to see which one is the best and I’m not trying to get pregnant but when that time comes, I’d like all of that info to just be on one app. So I got Ava... I decided not to get a band before I see how the app is... SO glad that I didn’t waste $250 for a band (that is apparently very cheap according to other reviews)!
So I tried to start imputing my period information and there’s a big calendar in the app but it doesn’t let you add your periods there. Instead, you have to scroll along the top of the screen on a tiny strip of dates to find the ones you want. THEN, you can’t even click on the actual date! I had to click on the 20th if I wanted the 19th. And the 30th if I wanted the 29th. Plus the app is incredibly slow and when I tried to contact support about it, no one responded and nothing happened.
I’ve tried a lot of other period apps and Ava isn’t even number one when you search for one. I’d suggest Femometer, Flo, Period tracker, Clue, Eve, Life, and probably any other ones before I’d suggest Ava. Femometer is the first that comes up when you search for one and it’s worked the best for me so far! Plus I have an Apple Watch that syncs to it so that notifies me when my period is supposed to start and is actually accurate!

Very accurate

Even though they don’t advertise this as a birth control method, I used it for about a year as one - on the days I was fertile my husband and I used precautions, and it worked like a charm. After about a month or so the Ava was spot on with my fertility window and when my period was expected, which allowed for a great natural method of birth control. Then, when the time came to get pregnant I knew exactly when I could conceive, and sure enough a week later I went to the doctor and confirmed I was pregnant. It is *incredibly* accurate. Just make sure you remember to wear it every night. For me it’s a little uncomfortable, but I have the older model.

Also, once you get pregnant, the app is able to track your pregnancy progress and still be used to make sure you’re having a healthy pregnancy (it uses recommendations for things like where your weight should be according to how far along you are, etc.). It is definitely worth the money.

And if something happens to it where it stops working for some reason, they send you a free replacement. Very good customer service.

Not acceptable

No update in 3 months, yet serious complaints from users in reviews. No answer to complaints by company. Device likes to disconnect in the middle of the night OR randomly light up solid white with no buzzing, which is going to wake up most people in a completely dark room. Fully charged, yet wake up to blinking pink light that it needs charging and no results. Never says why the data wasn't collected exactly. Not compatible with Apple health so if you want to add the temps and other stats, have fun manually inputting them constantly. No "raw data" in the sense that, when you click to get your report, it's literally just a graph that shows the pink and green areas of your cycle, no other data (like temp). App doesn't care about LH tests, you can input them all day long, but Ava readily admits it doesn't take them into account when making predictions, so don't waste your time since Ava won't sync to your health app anyway.
Extremely expensive, software updates irregularly, a very cheap wristband that gets gross real fast, apparently nobody from the company reads newer reviews, etc. I could go on for awhile.
Ladies, if getting pregnant is important to you, don't use this device. If you notice, the people who endorse this might include well-known influencers and celebrities, but they're getting paid, and they got it for free.

Such a disappointing app

For how expensive the bracelet is, you have the expectation that their app would be as good as Fertility Friend or Ovia for example. Or at least close. I am beyond disappointed in this app and the features and how it lacks updating (it’s mixes the date up daily - it always says I’m a day behind than I really am which is critical to have this correct when TTC!). It does not have an algorithm that will allow you to input a peak ovulation predictor test result. You’re able to input your results in the notes, but it won’t take it into effect with your actual predictions. Using skin temperature is great, but having skin temp combined with an OPK test would be best. The sleep measurements and reading are very off. Don’t rely on this to give you any more information than your total hours in bed and of that, what was deep or light sleep. If I didn’t know better, I’d think I was in a beta version of the app and they hadn’t even released the bracelet or app yet. It also takes longer to sync than I feel is necessary. I have a toddler and baby and it takes too long to sync when I have a crying baby next to me wanting to get up. I love the idea of the bracelet and how it travel the items it does, but this app needs work big time. The articles it provides are a nice bonus.

Miracle

I have had problems getting pregnant for 10 years. It took 2 years to get pregnant with my son and an additional 4 years to get my daughter. After a year of trying unsuccessfully, I decided to buy the bracelet. I compared the date it gave me for ovulation to the dates other apps gave me, and sure enough, they were different. Ava detected that I was ovulating later than projected, and 60 days after I ordered the bracelet, I got a positive pregnancy result. And even more surprising, it’s actually twins, which I know has nothing to do with the bracelet, but if Ava hadn’t predicted my cycle correctly, I wouldn’t be carrying these two right now. I have recommended Ava to all the women I know that struggle in anyway, or are planning on starting a family in coming years. It does all the work, you just have to wear it and sync it in the morning. Thank you Ava, for taking the stress away and for figuring out what was going on with my cycle. Maybe I’ll name one of the twins Ava 😉

Waste of money

The device and app are both a waste of money, and I truly regret buying it. When you receive the bracelet you can join the online Facebook group and herein will tell you all you need to know. The vast majority of women regret buying this, myself including. First, the bracelet regularly malfunctions and does not record data (which happened to me twice this week). The company does not stand behind its product. Second, the information it gives you is just data, and leaves you to figure things out for yourself. The majority of the Facebook group is women screen shotting their data and asking for others help figure out what it means. Had I known I would have to rely on random people on Facebook to help me determine what the data means, and not the $300 device I purchased, I would never have bought it. The app also has several glitches- for example when you try to add your period to a specific day, it will add it to the day prior. If you try to add it to a Saturday, it adds it to the previous Sunday, so it’s a never ending game of trying to put your own information in correctly. These are known issues to the company and they just don’t fix it. Do yourself a favor and don’t waste your money on this.

Works well for temping and sleep tracking

While I really like the convenience of the Ava bracelet for temping and tracking sleep and stress, I am very skeptical of its accuracy in predicting fertile days. So I tested its accuracy by using two different brands of OPKs and the Ava bracelet simultaneously. I had two glasses on wine one night, and Ava moved my fertile window up by three days, and then claimed I ovulated two days later. However, both sets of OPKs showed LH surge a week later, and my temperature spike confirmed ovulation to be in line with my OPKs, NOT the Ava bracelet. I understand that alcohol can change your heart rate and breathing rate, but two glasses of wine hardly seems enough to throw everything out of whack like that. Apparently, Ava only works accurately if you abstain from the liquid libations completely. But I do love that I don’t even have to think about temping at the right time of morning, my temperature just syncs up when I take off the bracelet. And tracking my stress level has really encouraged me to make some changes at work to ensure I’m taking care of myself. For those reasons, I am happy with my purchase. But I will not be throwing out my OPKs anytime soon while we are still TTC.

Poor quality and bad customer service

There have been multiple times that the bracelet will not log my data on to the app so I have to restart my phone multiple times and it usually will eventually transfer data. The loops on the strap break easily and the band is poor quality. You can buy a replacement for $35 but the screws are so tiny it is very difficult to put back on. The latest issue was when they updated their app and suddenly my bracelet is blocked and I get told the following: “Thank you for reaching out. Upon checking on your AVA to see why it is blocked, we can see that this AVA was reported defective by the original owner and it was blocked. The original owner reported this AVA defective on 2020, and we had advised that the AVA would be blocked because of this. Unfortunately, in accordance to our policy once the AVA is confirmed defective and blocked, it can not be unblocked. We apologize for the inconvenience and if there is anything else we can help with, please let us know. Thank you and have a nice day.” They gave no help to fix the problem. Just basically said well you said their was an issue with the band so we blocked you 2 years later. Don’t buy this product. It is a waste of your money.

This is an App Review not a Bracelet Review

I want to note that this is a review of the app, not the actual Ava bracelet. I purchased the Ava bracelet about 8 months ago and have been consistently wearing it at night while I am sleeping. While I feel that the functionality of the app is good and that it is easy to navigate, there are a couple of things that need fixing. One thing I quickly noticed was when I woke in the morning and synced my bracelet’s data to the app, the home screen would get stuck saying “updating your predictions” and would never actually give me my predictions. I had to actually switch over to the Health Data tab to see my results for the previous night and then switch back to the home tab. I took me awhile to discover this hack, as I initially thought it just took a while to calculate my predictions. Another thing that is quite frustrating is that occasionally the app just logs me out and in my sleepy state (since I just woke) I am trying to remember my password just so I can log on and sync my bracelet. Given the price that you pay for the bracelet (and ultimately the app), these bugs can be very frustrating.
