AVI MetaEdit is a tool that supports embedding, validating, and exporting of metadata in AVI (Standard and OpenDML) files. This tool can also enforce file structure and metadata recommendations and specifications from U.S. National Archives, Microsoft, and IBM.
Initial funding of AVI MetaEdit was provided by NARA (National Archives and Records Administration) supported by the FADGI (Federal Agencies Digitization Guidelines Initiative), with project management from AVPreserve.
MediaArea was involved in the development and provides binaries for all platforms.
This version is an unofficial update including a couple of fixes.
x Fix of impossibility to save file if only INFO chuncks are modified
x Fix of file rejection if iXML chunk is before Tdat chunk
Ratings and Reviews
The icon is ugly but the app works great! I had a large collection of .AVI video files with incorrect data tags embedded into the files. With this app I was able to quickly drag in a large batch of files, clear all the incorrect tags, and save the changes with just a click.
This can examine data, but when attempting to modify, it repeatedly says "cannot create temporary file" and stops - if you check documentation, both in app and online, it merely lists that as one of the errors, but doesn't tell you what to do about it! What a joke.
The developer, MediaArea.net, indicated that the app’s privacy practices may include handling of data as described below.
