Description

B737 Cockpit Companion for iPad is a conversion of Bill Bulfer's B737 NG Cockpit Companion book series to an iPad app. It now includes the Classics.

Since 1998, B737 Cockpit Companion has been a valued resource for airline pilots worldwide. It is a convenient accessible guide to systems, incorporating notes on functionality, "theory of operation", and Bill's extensive experience as a line pilot with a major US carrier.

B737 Cockpit Companion steps far beyond the "need to know" philosophy that is characteristic of modern systems training, and which frustrates many line pilots.

The app is much more than an "eBook." At its heart is a powerful database engine that allows a tremendous number of configuration options to be customized without forcing the user to wade through clutter: When you browse a control head, for instance, you will see only content related to that control head.

The app features a touch-through navigation scheme, so you can start with the top-level cockpit view, and find notes specific to the panel you deal with.

It also contains a number of reference options, so you can look up data without having to work through the control panels.

The major features include:

- Extensive coverage of the B737-600, -700, -800, -900, the BBJs, and the Classic EFIS/EIS.

- The complete text of the B737 NG Cockpit Companion print version--and more.

- All-new, high-resolution graphics detailing every panel and control head.

- A note-taking capability.

- An extensive index of over 700 items, linked to the main text.

- A circuit breaker locator.

- Bill's high-resolution, vector-based schematics.

- The content of the B737 Alerts app—a $15 value—optimized for the new database.

- An extensive glossary.

- A database update feature to help keep the database up to date (requires a wireless connection).

Of interest to students or prospective pilots, we also include:

- The content of the B737 QRG app—a $10 value—optimized for the new database (the QRG is a conceptual project, useful for aeroscience students, is not universally applicable, and should not be used in flight operations).

- A sample Limitations function.

- A sample Master Minimum Equipment List, based on FAA Rev 55a.

- An ATA chapter database.

As with all products of this type, this program is for informational purposes only. Your FAA-approved company flight manual is the final authority as to the safe and correct operation of your airplane.

One optional in-app subscription, "Quizzer", is available. This is a convenient way of reviewing systems operation, and was written by Bill Bulfer:

• The subscription lasts one year.
• Payment will be charged to your iTunes Account at confirmation of purchase
• The subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24-hours before the end of the current period.
• Your account will be charged for renewal within 24-hours prior to the end of the current period, and identify the cost of the renewal at the time.
• Subscriptions may be managed by you, and auto-renewal may be turned off by going to your iTunes Account Settings in System Settings after purchase.

NOTE: The app is supported and designed for the iPad 4 and later. It is not supported on the original iPad (2010). Performance on the iPad 2 (2011) and iPad 3 (2012) and the original iPad Mini (2012) will be marginal. As of September 2018, it requires iOS 10 or later, but may run on earlier versions (these are untested).

What’s New

Version 2.62

2.62:
- Removed the Notes option from the Index page. Makes no sense to take notes there.
- Adjusted the height of the banner view in the Index page. It was clipping a bit of the tab selector.
- Another adjustment to the Quizzer Intro page: now properly removes the "buy" hint, so now you can see Airplane General again. We'll get it right one of these days.

2.61:
- Editorial Configuration issue in the Quizzer tab fixed. EVERYONE should see the free quizzes, now.
- Bug in the Quizzer tab fixed (yellow screen).
2.60:

ccipad App Updates

All airplanes.
Expanded the study of the RUNAWAY STABILIZER NNC.
> Control yoke > Main Elec Stab Trim switch
You are invited to join the Automation Failure discussion group at: bill.bulfer@icloud.com

Added the stab trim drawing to the Schematics tab
> Schematics > ATA 27 Flight Controls > Flight Controls - Stab Trim

Added a description of Aerodynamic Loading of the Horizontal Stab/Jackscrew and the Roller Coaster Technique of stab trim runaway recovery.
Take a look at this, practice it in the sim, and let me know if I can improve the description.
This is very good and was sent to me just a few days ago. It’s very important you learn these things.

You can learn what Aerodynamic Loading is by hand flying the airplane and using manual trim.
Don’t stay a stranger to hand flying the airplane. It’s done a lot at certain carriers.
> Trim wheel > Stab Trim System Notes

Added a discussion of the number of revolutions required to change the stab trim by 1 unit.
Take a look at it, practice it at the gate, and see if you agree with my numbers.
> Trim wheel > trim handle

Classic airplanes.
Corrected the stab trim drawing to show both electric motors, main electric stab trim and A/P stab trim.
> Either control wheel > Stab Trim System Notes > General

Re-wrote the AUTO SLAT FAIL light description.

MAX airplanes.
Moved the Speed Trim System from the Stall Warning panel back to the Flight Control System Notes.
Speed Trim System contains the speed trim function and pitch trim function (MCAS). They are not related to the stall warning system; they are speed stability and pitch stability functions.

Pros use it

I started with Bill’s manuals (both the CC and the FMC guide). Both have helped me to maintain proficiency and knowledge acquisition. I even changed the way I fly the airplane because of what I have learned. This is a great tool to have whether you are getting typed or just as a cockpit reference as I use it. I can’t say enough about this app.. or Bill. Thanks for creating this helpful and valuable resource

Excellent Tool

Cockpit companion is an excellent tool used by aviation professionals worldwide. As a flight training instructor for a major airline I’ve used CC in program development and pilot training. It is an excellent reference complete with the latest information, with displays and pull down descriptions of every system in the B-737, including the MAX aircraft. There is no other product like it.

Great learning tool!

This APP is worth every penny. It provides a portable, practical way to learn systems easily and gain a depth of learning books alone can’t provide. I’m so glad I found this resource!
