  • Finally; a game with real quality and depth

The Banner Saga is, quite frankly, the best game in the App Store. For years I have wondered why there seemed to be such a lack of creativity and thoughtful storytelling in mobile gaming apps. I remembered as a child so many great titles for Gameboy that were clever, fun and immersive. This game is above and beyond what I remembered from those experiences. The story is immersive, and the choices you make affect the game in real and exciting ways. The gameplay is quite fun and challenging in a way that is neither boring nor frustrating. The character customization and development are excellent. The controls, on an iPhone 6, are intuitive and for the most part easy to use. Only a few times in a large clump of enemies do I have to tap a few times to get the correct target. In a time where developers seem intent on making a quick buck with in-app gimmicks and cheaply made and poorly thought out apps for a few dollars, Banner Saga drops like a bomb on the playground of developers. The game is well worth the price and more, and hopefully other app makers, with Banner Saga and the folks at Stoic showing them the way, will finally start to realize the vast potential of mobile gaming, a potential which has to this point remained largely untapped.

  • Perfect, excellently crafted game

This game is truly stunning. It combines beautiful artwork and rendering with challenging gameplay and an engaging story. First of all, the artwork. The caravan scenes are stunning. Their backdrops are stunning. The character animations are stunning. What else can I say. The artistry team here has really done an amazing job capturing the stoic beauty of this land. Plus the music is fantastic. Next, the challenging gameplay. Although at first there is a lot to learn, grasping the mechanics and slowly developing a tactic and strategy is very fulfilling. Pulling off a fantastic maneuver is an incredibly rewarding experience. It's difficult, but the difficulty is in line with the narrative. And finally, the story. This game is amazingly well written. The story has so many twists, and gets deeper and darker the further you go along. It's honestly a story I would read in a book, but combine that with the stunning visuals and the direct affect you have on the story itself and you have yourself a winning combination. I've heard reports of buggy games, but I've never had that problem. Just make sure you have enough storage. Do yourself a favor and get this game, even if it's just to support the developers who obviously poured their heart into this game.

  • Amazing game

i personally really liked this game alot. the main story is well thought out and very compelling i found myself wanting to find out more and more. the art work is beautiful and while sone what simple it really brings out the rustic feeling of the old world. game play is intence on normal and hard, easy is a good way to learn the mechanics and rules of combat. one thing i really like was that every time i played the main story basicly stayed the same but the events on the road were always diffrent and very rewarding when you help someone and later on in game in a desprate situation that person you helped 40 days ago helps you and saves you. there are only 2 things i didnt really like but this is just my opinion. one thing was the game seemed to be over quickly but my first run took me about 10 hours. the 2nd thing was that the ending i wasnt thrilled about only because it left me wanting more n wishing i could exsplore more of the vast land before me. all in all great game good re-play value and well worth the 10$ i would highly recommend buying this game i enjoyed it alot and i hope you do too.

  • A little overrated

It's good, but not legendary The good: beautiful artwork in the game. A storyline better than most games. A new unique universe. An RPG that doesn't treat the player like a child watching Saturday morning cartoons. Lots of choices are offered to the player throughout the game are difficult to decide, and make big differences. The bad: Very little strategy is necessary in combat with their system. Combat is too simple. The classes are not weighted correctly, some are just pointless. The lettering in the towns is difficult to see. When you have no more food, you can't do anything at all about it but watch as people die off. For example, could we maybe dismiss some of the tribe somehow? Often, it's difficult to remember who is who because the names are so unusual, and I often was lost in what the heck was going on. At the end of the game, there are many loose ends which are never addressed. Also, you don't even have enough time to level up at least one character who is introduced very late into the game. Also, could we please fast forward through the walking parts? Another thing, make the signs on the town maps easier to read for us iPhone players.

  • Great game, but a bit short

It truly is a fantastic game, where you can control your destiny through decision making instead of being forced into a linear story. The combat and hero management is fun too, and of course the art is gorgeous. The only negative thing I can say is that it felt like I was finally settling into leveling up my characters, acquiring some decent items, and the adventure was really getting underway...and it was over...but I wanted to keep going! I'm not sure if there's much replayability though. While the story changes based upon your decisions, it would be nice if there were more random encounters and side quests. Perhaps if there was more time spent traveling between cities, it would open more space for encounters/quests (maybe in the sequel?). That would definitely add more replayability and stretch out the campaign length as well. It would also be nice to have more things to manage (different ways to boost morale, monitor the clansfolk, etc.), and perhaps more methods for obtaining supplies (hunting or raiding perhaps?). All in all, a wonderful game, but I think it could be even better with more content.

  • Amazing PC port

This game originated on the PC. I have to say it is one of those games that makes you not want to let go of the phone which is very rare in this marketplace. Combat is difficult but easy to use as one mistake can lead to a character getting killed. This rewards good strategies instead of mindless bum rushes. This game's story is also fantastically written by a guy that is a professional story writer. Even though the story sequel baits, in my opinion, it earns that next sequel and I will gladly spend money on this game any day. The enemy you fight is interesting, living obsidian like creatures that are basically the totally evil half of humans. You don't fight these guys all the time, you actually fight other humans in this game too. The art of this game is smoothly drawn and shows high detail and makes combat animations look so great. There are a multitude of things I could go over but if you want great strategy, resource management, great story, great hand drawn visuals, pick this game up right now. We need more actual RTS games instead of mindless grinding games.
