BeeSmart™ Pollinator Gardener app is brought to you by the nonprofit organization, the Pollinator Partnership.

The Pollinator Partnership is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization-- the largest organization in the world dedicated exclusively to the protection and promotion of pollinators and their ecosystems. Birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles, and other small mammals that pollinate plants are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food. They also sustain our ecosystems and produce our natural resources by helping plants reproduce. Unfortunately they are in trouble. Some species have seen a 90% decline in their populations over the last decade. Without the actions of pollinators agricultural economies, our food supply, and surrounding landscapes would collapse.

Good starting point

I got into native gardening a few years ago and an app like this may have been a useful starting place back then, as I did all my research and reading the traditional way and made a garden plan on my own. It was a lot of work. I like that this app makes it easy to get ideas for what you want to plant, however, I wish there was a little more detail about each plant listed. For example, it lists maple species as good trees to plant, but there is no further information, and no warnings about non-natives in the same family. A person not going the extra step to check the full scientific name in a garden section of their local home improvement store might go home with a Norway maple instead of a native one, not knowing how horribly invasive they are, and thinking they are doing right by the pollinators. I would love some more detail with each plant listing: which species it serves as a larval host for, what specific pollinators it attracts with its flowers, non-native look-alikes, more and better pictures featuring close-ups of leaves/flowers/stems/bark/etc., any specific care it needs. Even just an excerpt or link to the Wikipedia article would provide a lot more useful information than just what is inherent in the app.
I really like the idea of this app, and it is very easy to use, but I think the content is just not there.

Good Start but...

I work at a garden center and downloaded this app to see if it was something worth recommending to my customers. While I think it's a great start, it's not there yet. The list of plants is far too limited and when I try to limit the search criteria I get no results. This is something I believe my customers would find extremely frustrating. With some fine tuning this app could be spectacular, but it's not quite there yet.

Great concept

This is a great idea. I think it’s a good app that could be great. Please add a space to review our experience with the plant. I’m glad I downloaded it.
