Best Typing Lessons and Test will teach you how to touch type quickly without looking at the keyboard. The program is designed to work for all students and skill levels, whether you are beginning as a kid or an adult. A benefit of this app is that it can work on your phone or a tablet and you don’t need to have a computer online (having a Bluetooth keyboard is ideal, but the program can work without one too).

After teaching middle school Computer Applications and typing for the past several years I realized that many of the free online typing programs had several flaws. The biggest problem I found was that many of my students would never learn to use the correct fingers to type with when only using the most popular sites.

The main problem that I discovered was that the online typing tutors almost always teach the pointer fingers first, and for students who are already used to hunting and pecking they don’t transition to the less used fingers redly.

To the best of my knowledge this app and accompanying website has the only method that begins teaching the pinkies first and then proceeds to the fingers that students are already used to using. I have found that this method breaks bad habits early and sets students up to successfully type while using the correct fingers. I have also made the learning process easier by color coding the keys creating an alliterating pneumonic device to assist with learning (Pink - pinkies, Red - ring fingers, Mint-Green - middle fingers, and Purple - pointers).

The introductory lessons are designed for learners to develop correct muscle memory when typing the keys. The process systematically begins with home row weak fingers, and then adds top row and bottom row in a way that will teach correct finger position automatically and help break bad typing habits naturally.

As the lessons progress to beginner and intermediate typing lessons students will type text that works on proper reaches. Some programs deviate from this method at this point and prefer to type words first, however this program focuses on teaching muscle memory and proper keying technique, so many letter combinations are systematically introduced so as to help students master the entire keyboard.

Aside from the lessons, students may take a timed typing test. Test options include beginner (lowercase only), intermediate (capitals and lowercase), and advanced (includes numbers and symbols). The typing test duration can be setup for between one and five minutes long, and your results are displayed instantly.

Other benefits of this typing program are that it tracks how long is spent on each individual lesson, and it tracks the total amount of time typed overall. Data from each key is recorded, and you can identify your percentage accuracy for each letter of the alphabet. Students earn points for each letter correctly typed, and stars are earned for finishing lessons with a high degree of accuracy. In addition to these features you can view your typing test statistics which will show up to the last 20 tests that you have taken.

It’s my pleasure to be a middle school typing teacher and to provide this app developed from my years of experience. I know you will find learning to type beneficial in your life and if this app helps I hope you give it a positive rating.

Very helpful

I never learned to type as a kid. Exactly half way through school they switched from writing everything by hand to being required to type everything. They taught a little typing at school and figured you’d learn the rest at home. We couldn’t afford a computer and too many bullies made their hangout the computer lab. So I never learned. Too many drugs at home. School was my safe haven until the bullying got too bad to focus.
Typing had always been too intimidating to learn as a kid due to lack of opportunity, but it was always something I had wanted to learn. I got a laptop with my stimulus check, and I’ve had pretty much nothing but free time to learn new skills during these unnecessary shutdowns. It occurred to me recently that I might finally be able to learn typing. I went through this mini course in about 8 days working a few hours a day with Sundays off.
This is an excellent app. Be careful with the first set of lessons if you have any kind of seizure condition. Lots of blinking. But it is the best way for this lesson to be taught in order to work on some of the different skills you will need to type. I had to step away frequently and rest when I started feeling out of it. The rest of the lessons are absolutely excellent, though.
5 stars. You’re never too old to learn a new skill. If an old dog won’t learn new tricks, it’s because he’s unwilling to learn.

Developer Response ,

I'm so glad the app helped you learn to type, thanks for sharing your experience! Keep learning new tricks 😀

Good App for practice

(Not an english native)
I liked this app, I used it to get used my new keyboard.
I didn’t feel it boring, because the short lessons give time to rest and even give the feeling to start a new one right away.
I would like they add new lessons for other symbols: {[]} (), and most important maybe they can add an option for “personalized” text.. to practice with my own text, Because I already finish the lessons (Intermediate and Advanced) and would like to continue practicing in the app (because the system of colors I liked it very much!).
I think I paid for removing adds, but not sure how much it costs.. didnt see the price and no confirmation for payment? It was strange. Hopefully everthing will be ok.

Developer Response ,

Thanks for using the app and your review. I like your ideas about using personalized text lessons and adding some more symbol lessons. Regarding the purchase, if the App Store is unavailable it won't display prices or allow for any purchases, so hopefully that is what happened and all is well. Hopefully I can add your lesson suggestions in a future update.

Exactly what I wanted and EXCELLENT customer support!

As a home educating family recognizing the importance of computer literacy in today’s world we have made it a point to teach our children proper typing techniques. I did not want a childish cartoonish app however, as we wait until our children have their hand writing well developed … around the 7th grade. We have been using this app for 6 years and our oldest 5 children have learned to type using it.

After the latest update, we noticed a bug. The developer was very responsive and worked until he found the issue and got it fixed. I highly recommend this particular typing app.
