The application launcher with a 50,000 foot view

Bevy is an application launcher that shows all of your applications in a single window that can be opened with a global hot key, from the menu bar, by mousing over a corner or edge of the screen, or by clicking its dock icon. Bevy automatically searches a list of standard application locations and creates a visual group for each folder in the list. In addition, you can modify the list and add your own unique application locations. To help you quickly find the application you're looking for, a key press will highlight applications with matching names or you can drag-and-drop a file to highlight compatible applications. How cool is that? In addition, you can hide rarely used apps and un-installers so they won't clutter your window. And Bevy is always up-to-date because it uses Spotlight to keep track of changes so you don't have to.

What’s New

Version 1.0.10

Fixed - Fixed error handling in color sorting code that could cause a crash when scanning app icons (usually at startup)
Changed - Improved handling of key presses
Changed - Command-W, Escape and Command-Period will now close any window or sheet
Changed - When filtering app names with the keyboard, Escape and Command-Period now clear your entry, then either will close the window if pressed again
Changed - You can use the delete key when filtering app names with the keyboard
Changed - Controls and group dividers are now drawn in black when the window background is completely transparent
Changed - Rescan All Apps will now force a reload of all app icons instead of reusing existing icons. This can be used to fix an application icon that becomes generic after that application updates itself (using Sparkle or another built-in mechanism).

much better than the dock

Coming from Windows XP, I was missing the Start Menu / Programs selection. The Bevy App Launch / Manager is truly useful for me . Thanks.

Works great

Version 1.0.9 addresses the comments from previous posts. This is great little app and can serve very nicely as an app switcher, app launcher, and even a dock replacement if you want to hide the dock altogether. I tried all of the others and this app worked the best for me, a few of the reasons:
• single app to act as a launcher, switcher and dock replacement. As an app switcher replacement you can set up the main tab to show just running apps, I like it better than apple's app switcher
• define hot keys, hot corners, or even hot sides to activate/deactivate.
• when switching apps it behaves like the dock; if there is not an open window then it creates one (apple app switcher does not do that, really annoying)
• set-up a custom "favorites" tab of all the common apps I use with the icons in the order I like, basically quick app launcher
• customizable look and feel with a very smooth opening and closing, activating/deactivating is a very pleasant experience
• works well with lots of apps, like in the pictures above, or with just a few apps (you can remove the apps you don't want listed)
• the developer is very responsive and very open to suggestions, you can't find better support than this.

Bevy works very well for me

Over the years I have used and discarded a number of application launchers for OS X. Most recently I have been using a Finder window in the Dock and it worked well. Bevy is the best I have found because..

1. The interface is clean, simple, and very easy to use
2. Bevy can be launched with a keystroke, hot corner, or from the Dock
3. Selected applications can be hidden (excluded) from the display but are instantly available when desired
4. Applications can be grouped by folders which is invaluable when you have a large number of applications

The only improvement I can think of would be the ability to group applications internally within Bevy rather than having to physically move them to different folders with the attendant difficulty of updating some locations sensitive apps.
