PRACTICE WITH CONFIDENCE USING TOP TOOLS
With similar testing features to the ones you’ll have access to on the exam, you can nip some of your test anxiety in the bud.
Highlight key passages of the question
Strikeout answer choices to eliminate distractors
Mark a question to come back to it later
Make a note for yourself for a specific question
Half the battle of mastering your score, is mastering the format of your exams. Taking practice questions in the same format you’ll see on the exam is critical to your success. These question banks include the following testing formats:
Select All That Apply (SATA)
Hot Spot Items
Fill in the Blank Calculation
As you create your custom practice quizzes, you will see a mix of these question types, just as you would see on the exam for which you’re preparing.
Further customize your quizzes by choosing from three quiz types:
Study mode is similar to an open book quiz without a time limit. In this quiz environment, you can read the explanations as you go and practice at your own pace.
TEST (UNTIMED) MODE
Test (Untimed) Mode is like taking a closed book quiz without the pressure of a time limit. Answers and explanations are not available during the quiz.
TEST (TIMED) MODE
To quasi-simulate the pressure of a test environment, Test (Timed) Mode allows you to study without revealing the correct answers and explanations until the quiz has been completed.
NCLEX® CAT TESTING MODE
For NCLEX® students, you can choose to practice in a Computer Adaptive Test mode (CAT). Computer adaptive testing adjusts to your abilities - providing you with either an easier or harder question depending on how you answered the previous question.
ANSWER RESPONSE TIME
Oftentimes we know the answer, but it can take us too long to recall it. With built-in analytics to evaluate your answer response time, you can see if you’re on the right track to completing your board exam in the allotted time frame.
Analytics cover your average response time based on individual questions, averages by subject, and averages by quiz.
Individual performance scores are important, but only give you part of the story. Our Peer Rank metric shows how you compare with others answering the same questions so you can see how you're ranking compared to your peers studying for the same exam.
Our comprehensive evidence-based explanations are now augmented with Peer Comparisons so you can see exactly how other users answered the same question with percentages for each answer choice.
MONITOR YOUR PROGRESS
Your competency changes as you study. Your dashboard will feature a visual representation of your performance over time. Identifying growth or plateaus can help you target trouble areas and maximize your study time.

Ratings and Reviews
I used Board Vitals as my only Q-bank for psychiatry boards and scored above the national average. Many explanations had additional info and charts that I marked for review later and then reviewed in the weeks leading up to my board exam. Really like their format. They also have vignettes that were very similar to the vignette section on the boards. Lastly, when I taught board review to PGY-4s, I used BV to help keep the residents engaged. Also, your progress and marked questions are available on the app and online.
As you can see, I am a fan. Currently using BV for Child and Adolescent Psych.
Great app, syncing issues between platforms
I’m really enjoying using this to study for a board exam, however there are some issues intermittently causing syncing issues between my iPad, iPhone, and the web based question bank I use on my laptop. I switch between them depending on the setting and circumstances, but it doesn’t always recognize on the various platforms that I’ve completed a series of questions/quiz so sometimes I’ll have to go back through them in order to progress through new questions. Not major, but annoying. Otherwise, the questions and information are fantastic review!
I have been surprised by how user friendly the app is. I like that you can review the questions in study mode and immediately see explanations for the right and wrong answers. I am earning CME for my AANP recertification and I have been happy with how easy it has been. I do wish that there was an option to have questions related to pediatric pharmacology since I work in pediatrics. Otherwise, it has been great!
