Description

Bone Ninja Sensei is offered at a yearly subscription rate of $14.99.

Bone Ninja is a teaching tool developed by two orthopedic surgeons who specialize in limb deformity correction: Dr. Shawn Standard and Dr. John Herzenberg. It is designed to help surgeons learn to analyze long bone deformities. Bone Ninja comes pre-loaded with radiographs of normal legs and deformed legs. You can analyze the provided cases or upload your own. Once your analysis is complete, you can then use the cut-out tool to try different osteotomy solutions. Suggested solutions for the provided cases are available for comparison.

Bone Ninja includes tools for drawing lines, measuring angles, measuring lengths, and calibrating the magnification. The cutting tool allows you to manipulate one or more fragments to simulate correction of single or multilevel deformities. The analysis of the radiographs is based on methodology taught at our annual Baltimore Limb Deformity Course (BLDC), now in its 22nd year (DeformityCourse.com). We developed this app to supplement the BLDC and look forward to feedback from attendees and other users. Bone Ninja is not presented as a clinical tool, but rather an educational tool. It will not “automatically” analyze deformities. The student must first learn the methodology of analyzing and planning deformity correction in order to use Bone Ninja. Bone Ninja is a 21st century mobile alternative to pencil, ruler, goniometer, and paper.

Bone Ninja will be periodically updated by adding more case examples, more explanations, and more tools. The name “Bone Ninja” is intentionally whimsical and reflects our philosophy of teaching as “infotainment.” Enjoy!

Incredible tool

I started using the original Bone Ninja app when it launched several years ago. I wasn’t sure how they could improve the original version because it was so helpful, but there have been some great improvements. Some of the changes that I really like are (1) the ability to measure an angle between any two lines even if they do not intersect; (2) the ability to change the thickness of lines; (3) the ability to switch between a lower extremity measurement panel and a foot and ankle measurement panel to record values when analyzing a deformity. It’s a great tool if you’re just learning how to analyze deformity and plan corrections, but its also an adjunct to clinical practice for the more experienced deformity surgeon. I routinely use this app to plan out corrections and use these plans both for myself (take to the OR) and to help explain to patients and families the underlying problem and the strategy for treatment. The only downside is that there is not an android version of this tool for learners and surgeons who do not have access to an ipad.

Developer Response ,

We are sorry to learn you are experiencing difficulties with our app. We have a few troubleshooting steps we would recommend:
1. Please check to see if you have the latest iOS Operating System which is currently 16.7.2.
2. If you do not have the latest iOS, please:
A. Uninstall Bone Ninja Sensei
B. Update to the latest iOS version
C. Restart your iPad
D. Then reinstall Bone Ninja Sensei

3. If you still have an issue when working with an image you added from the "Add Photo," the problem can be a download problem. The image being used could be a smaller version, not the full version of the image on the Cloud. Here are steps to try:
A. Please change photo preferences in settings from Automatic to Keep Originals. This will help with downloading an image from the iCloud in the future.
B. If you do not have space on your iPad to "Keep Originals," then be sure to allow the whole image to download and place the photo in your Bone Ninja Photo Album before selecting the image in the app.
C. If you are using a photo taken on your iPad, save the photo in your Bone Ninja Photo Library, then "Add Photo" from within the app.

We hope these tips help!
