  • Profile creation wayyy too specific

    eatshands

I saw this app from an Instagram ad the other day and thought it was a cool concept, so I downloaded it because why not? Well, as I’m trying to make my profile, I keep getting shut down trying to add my first photo. Can’t be wearing sunglasses? Can’t be with someone else? HAVE TO BE FACING THE CAMERA? Like I get why you’d want the primary picture to be a valid picture of your face, but in my camera roll, I don’t have any of those where I’m ALSO climbing. I’m usually more focused on the climb and the other environmental factors that come into play. I’m sorry, I just think that’s a really dumb thing that’s going to keep people away, because it’s just not realistic.

  • Good, but age filter doesn’t work and messaging is weird.

It’s a really cute app design and you can tell it’s been thoroughly thought out. The prompts are good (although I do think it’s odd that there’s a “how hard can you Boulder?” question but not a “how hard can you sport/TR/whatever” question lol). the format is fine, the app works smoothly. My only complaints are twofold: 1. that when you get new messages they don’t move to the top of my queue, so you have to scroll through all of your matches to respond to ongoing conversations. I feel like that could be an easy fix.2. I have my age filter on 18-24. That’s fine, I only see people 18-24 in my stack. HOWEVER, I keep getting likes from people who are as old as 40. There’s nothing wrong with being 40 but there is something wrong with being 40 looking for a 20 year old. I don’t want to be visible to middle aged men.

Thank you for the feedback! We've gone ahead and fixed the messaging sorting. The age feedback is also valid, we'll look into how we can make this work better for everyone on Boulder!

  • Lots of fake people from different countries who don’t climb

    Weaboowarrior

At first when I joined the app I matched with real climbers - then about two months into the app I began noticing a lot of people who list a city they live in and then upon inquiring, they don’t actually live there. Which made me realize that they are just there to get you to talk to them so that whoever the owners of the app are get the “time spent on app” statistic up. Definitely fake people getting paid or scammers on here. If not, the app would probably die from lack of users 😂. Good concept though. Too bad you need to pump the user base with fake profiles/ users who aren’t real.

Hi again, I wanted to follow up and update the response to your review with what's changed on Boulder. As you may be aware, selfie verification is now required on Boulder, and verified profiles now have a "Verified" badge on them, so that you can be confident you're talking to a real climber. In addition, there have been backend changes made to ensure that reported users cannot delete their accounts and attempt to create duplicate accounts. The number of reported fake users has decreased significantly since these updates were released. Please reconsider your rating of Boulder, given that this issue is being addressed and there has already been significant improvement.Thank you for being a part of Boulder, and for your patience while we deal with the challenges of a growing platform!

  • No users

There’s nobody on this app, like at all. Nobody. I paid the $20 just because I was curious (you have to pay to change your location more than once a week). I’ve just been adjusting my location to different climbing destinations all over the country just to see…….I swipe through everyone. It’s done after 20 profiles in every place. I haven’t gotten even one single match (and that’s never a problem on any other app). I think I’m just seeing a bunch of people who set up a profile like a year ago and then just stopped checking and forgot about it. Good idea, but they need to promote it more or something.

    Developer Response

Hi Lizzy, Boulder is still very new, and the community is still growing. Thank you for your patience!

  • Great idea, needs waaaaay more promotion

    Botond123456

Needs a whole lot more advertisment, there is a need for this ad. Contact the local gyms… get advocates.Reason for 2 star: unlike other apps, once you hit X on a profile, that never gonna come back… I ran out of profiles in the first 1 days of using this app, and 2 weeks later still 0 profiles are being shown. If you have a smaller user based you could show the same profiles from the begining at least after 1-2 days showing nothing. For now, in a densly populated area in the middle of CA - i cant aee much use of this.

Hi there, thanks for the feedback. Boulder is still growing, so your patience is appreciated. An option to re-review profiles you disliked will be coming soon. In the meantime, please reconsider your rating if you want to encourage other climbers around you to join Boulder.

  • Cool concept, not enough people (yet)

    spudude123

If you’re reading this, the app is very smooth and works well. I didn’t see any fake profiles, as all the profiles I saw had pictures of nearby crags and climbing gyms. The only downside is there aren’t yet enough users! I think I swiped through 10 or so profiles before running out of people to swipe through :(.

    Developer Response

Thanks for the feedback spudude! Working on it! Marketing is a constant effort, but Boulder has grown a lot in the past year!
