Brainscape’s SMART FLASHCARDS foster hyper-efficient studying and strong habits to DOUBLE your learning speed, with the strongest implementation of spaced repetition and active recall of any flashcard app on the planet! (And probably in the universe, assuming some super intelligent alien species out there hasn’t beaten us to it.)

With a knowledge bank created by millions of global users and experts, you can FIND, MAKE, and SHARE flashcards anytime, anywhere, and on any device, while keeping all your content meticulously ORGANIZED and seamlessly IN SYNC across web, mobile, and all your devices.

How does it work? Brainscape’s intelligent study system has been designed in accordance with decades of proven cognitive science to help you learn faster and remember longer than with any other flashcard app. (And we don’t waste time on games. Our flashcards are for serious learners.)

Brainscape distills any subject down into bite-sized facts (neatly organized into decks and classes), which are posed as question-and-answer pairs, compelling you to actively recall information from scratch. You then rate how well you know each concept on a scale of 1 to 5, and Brainscape determines the perfect time interval at which to repeat that flashcard again.

If you know the answer well, you’ll see that flashcard less often; if you don’t know it well, you’ll see it again and again, at frequent intervals, until it’s deeply ingrained into your brain. And it’s this totally unique combination of active recall, self-assessment (metacognition), and spaced repetition that is scientifically proven to significantly slash your required study time!

Where do all of Brainscape’s awesome flashcards come from? Three places:

THE WORLD’S TOP EXPERTS. Brainscape partners with top publishers, schools, and educators to create comprehensive collections of certified flashcards for a diverse array of subjects, from foreign languages (we are the best language-learning tool in the world) to high-stakes exams like the AP series, MBE (bar exam), Series 7, NCLEX, MCAT, and more.

YOUR PEERS. Top students, professors, teachers, tutorpreneurs, and businesses around the world have created over 1 million subjects that are available to search on Brainscape’s Knowledge Genome.

YOU! You can easily create and organize thousands of multimedia flashcards featuring text, images, and even audio files, both on Brainscape’s website AND within the app itself. You can also share your decks with your classmates and collaboratively develop content together.

How much does it cost? Creating and sharing great flashcards is FREE. (Woohoo!) And for unlimited access to ALL of Brainscape's user-generated and premium, expert-curated content, as well as optional features, like bookmarks and card reversibility, you can upgrade to Pro for $9.99 (monthly), $41.99 (every 6 months), or $59.99 (annually). Alternatively, you can unlock a LIFETIME of learning with Brainscape for a one-time cost of only $129.99 American dolla billz.

The fine print: The three recurring subscriptions (monthly, semiannual, and annual) will renew automatically within 24 hours before the end of the current period, unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the period. You can cancel auto-renewal any time by going to Account Settings, and the cancellation will apply after the active subscription period is complete. Foreign languages are so much easier now

I have tried a ton of methods for learning foreign languages over the years — audio only, grammar intensive, books, audiobooks, videos, computer apps, etc. They all have their little gimmick — no studying, guided situations, games, etc. And at the end of the day, the simple flashcard method (with audio) works the best at having things to say in the moment you need it and at the tip of your tongue. Brainscape takes it further by offering curated professional flash cards courses for Spanish and French, plus smaller subsets of offerings (like verbs only or nouns only) for other languages like Mandarin or Italian. I wish they had entire courses in all the popular languages, because their method works best. It really does. Their method of progressive training, interval recall, and 5-level self scoring quite well at getting you to recall words and phrases. Plus I can create my own sets of flash cards and hook audio or picture content to them. All in all, there is no better method for learning a foreign language.

Great way to Memorize. Buggy app.

This app has great potential. It allows me to go over words that i don’t know over and over again until it becomes solidified in my head. I almost considered buying the premium version of the app. However, as much as Brainscape is a great app for its flash cards, it is extremely buggy. First, it relies heavily on its internet connection. If you try to study these flash cards while in the middle of a commute and the mobile network becomes spotty it crashes when you finish. If you want to double check a meaning on a card and you quickly switch apps and come back, the app freezes. It somehow saves progress which I assume is due to its constant connection to the internet, but my inability to switch between apps while memorizing is hindering to my learning process. I even tried to find a way to contact someone from Brainscape to talk about these things, but for some reason it says that there’s no email attached to the app even though when I go to my account my email info is in there. There was even a Brainscape representative that emailed me to promote the premium version so they do have my contact info so why doesn’t the app reflect that. I love the way the app works and would like to use it for a longer period of time, but if these problems persist it’ll become hard for me to do so.

Thank you for your feedback. We are working on some of the sync crashing issues.

For what it's worth, the app does *not* use an internet connection constantly when you are studying. We only ping the server (to update your study progress) when (1) you finish a study session or (2) you close the app and send it to the background. There are indeed times when doing one of these things with a spotty internet connection can cause problems, and we are working on these. #softwareIsHard.

Regarding the contact issue, could you explain what you mean by "it says there is no email attached to the app"? You should be able to just Contact Us to report a bug. If you want a near-immediate response from a human, you can always email

Hope we can continue to make the app useful for you!

Reverend Onyx ,

Right now I’m currently attending a high school, in the Jrotc, I was informed about a way to prepare for the ACT and ASVAB. I decided to take them up on the offer and went to the website, since I don’t have a computer and have to use a mobile device I had to use the app. On to the point it’s easy to navigate and the questions don’t seem random and actually have structure like the real ACT. I won’t have to take the ACT for another two years as I’m currently a freshman but I do have experience with the ACT, which allows me to say definitely use this app. I shouldn’t even have to mention that the sight I used is technically a navy owned sight, which means if the military is willing to bet on this then you should too.

Edit: Forgot to mention some cards have cut off sentences making them impossible to be done correct making them what I call “freebies.” As in there’s nothing to do but skip.

Hey Reverend Onyx, Wow! Thank you so much for studying with us! We'd love to hear more about the flashcards that are being cut off. Would you mind sending us a screenshot including the name of the class and deck, so that we can take a look and see what you're seeing? Here to help, Courtney@Brainscape
