Description

Bridgefy is an offline messaging app that lets you communicate with friends and family when you don't have access to Internet, by simply turning on your Bluetooth antenna. Ideal for music festivals, sports stadiums, rural communities, natural disasters, traveling abroad, and much more.
Use the Broadcast tab of the app so you can chat with all other Bridgefy users within 330 feet (100 meters), during tough times in which Internet connectivity is complicated. Please note that Bridgefy communications are not encrypted.
How to use the app:
After downloading the app, make sure to open it and create a profile, all while being connected to the Internet. You only need to do this the very first time you use the app.
Once you've registered on the Bridgefy app, you can turn off data and Wi-Fi on your phone, and simply turn on Bluetooth to start connecting to other users nearby. Do this by joining the Broadcast tab in the app.
You don't need to add contacts to Bridgefy. The app automatically detects other Bridgefy users around you and lets you chat in group, using the Broadcast section.

What’s New

Version 3.0.2

Welcome to Bridgefy 3.0, our biggest and most important update yet!

Times are hard right now, and people need to feel safe more than ever. We went ahead and added one of the world’s best encryption protocols into the Bridgefy App to better protect your privacy and security. Messages are now end-to-end encrypted, so you’ll know that people using Bridgefy won’t be able to know you’re participating in a conversation or pretend they’re someone else.

Upcoming releases will include online messaging, phone number verification, and Safety Number screens, but for now, rest assured that the most important changes to the Bridgefy App’s security are now in place!

We also improved connections and made the app more efficient.

Getting Better

With the app being overhauled in June, I wanted to take a second look. The app continues to look great and I assume works well (not been camping since Covid-19 hit). While the app is good for casual communication, you’ll want to remember that messages are not encrypted. Additionally the company does store your contact into on their servers. When I clicked to view their privacy policy, I was taken to a dead link. So I still have reservations with that functionality. That said, you can use the app in a “open broadcast” kind of way, which doesn’t require sharing any contact info. Which is nice. Reminds me of the old Nintendo DS pico-chat rooms. Could be fun / handy on planes, trains, ect

Hi there! Sorry you were experiencing issues. We updated our app in early June and got rid of some bugs, and now you don't need to verify with your phone number, and online messaging isn't supported anymore. We hope that you like this new version, and would appreciate a positive review!

Phone number required??

I thought the ENTIRE point of this app was to NOT need a phone number. If I can't even get past the REQUIRED setup that needs an active cellular service plan, what's the point?!

Update: devs have removed requirement of having an active phone number, but still have not tested app again, yet.

Just “okay”

Works okay, but has some bugs. Start screen says to go to settings to verify your phone number, but no option in settings to do so. Research says phone number is no longer required, but clicking on a contact gives you a notice “this contact is not verified.” Also, no way to add contacts. Click + button, fill in details, save.... no contact listed. Would like to set this up for emergencies when cell service is unavailable, but definitely need to be able to add contacts to be useful for that. Also, quick testing of the range is limited to about 50 ft. That could be Bluetooth limitations, though.

Thanks for the feedback! We're actually publishing a new version in a few weeks that will have removed all of those pesky bugs. Looking forward to hearing what you think!
