On the plus side,iIt does everything is says it will do. Unfortunately, it's missing a few things. First, I was unaware that it has no wireless connectability. Who makes a printer in 2020 without wireless access? I can, however, connect it to my network and print wirelessly through my own wifi. That means, however, that people with access to my guest network are out of luck. In addition, the printer is able to scan both sides of a document. Unfortunately the iPrint&Scan software does not allow me to use that feature. Thus, I can only take advantage of it if I plug in with a usb and use the button on the front of the printer. Lastly, I can't seem to find a way to tell the fax machine to stop answering the phone. There is nothing in any of the on screen setting menus that lists this as a command feature. Overall, I would have to say that they put more effort into designing the hardware than they did the software. If they would just update the software so I could properly manage the printer, I would be very happy.
Very Disappointed with Brother
I have owned a number of Brother printers and all-in-ones. My last two have been all-in-ones color laser printers so they are not cheap. I use Macs and up until Catalina - Brother has kept up with the software tools. I very unhappy with Brother for not releasing a 64 bit version of Control Center for Catalina. I installed this app only to discover how clunky it is and where is the preview function where I can select how much of the image I want scanned. I put in a 4 X 6 and it scans a full sheet. NOT what I needed! Brother - someone needs to wake up and start to care again about supporting their products - especially to the Mac community. I don't have a problem telling people what I think whether I like or dislike something. By the way I was being generous with 2 stars. One is probably more appropriate.
I bought a Brother ADS2700W because I need to scan a lot of documents.
The scanner itself is great, but this software is only okay.
If you scan 100s of 8.5x11 sheets of paper with no creases or rips, the software will get you a working PDF. However, you'll need to open it in another application to make any real modifications because the document editing features in this application are severely lacking.
When you're dealing with papers longer than 11 inches, like long receipts, this software doesn't cut it. Documents will stop scanning after about 11 inches, then physically jam the scanner. I've used other scanners which will continuously scan until the end of a sheet of paper. However, there are no options to override document length settings in this software.
If you're dealing with papers of various sizes or with rips, you might as well just use a flatbed scanner, because if the scanner jams at any point, this software throws out all of the successful scans. The software should save all the pages which successfully scanned, then make you clear your jam. However, this software just crashes and you lose all your work. When I scan documents like this, I scan them separately. Then I have to go back and merge PDFs to get all the pages I need together.
