Description

Walk along the ceremonial Buffalo effigy in māmowimīwēyitamōwin Park (formerly Regent Pool Park) on Treaty 4 Territory in Regina, SK, and experience Indigenous futuristic stories and art about tatanga otherwise known as buffalo. The effigy comprises 17 boulders, referred to as “grandfathers,” arranged in the shape of a buffalo larger than a soccer field and only visible from the sky.

Narrated by artist Joely BigEagle-Kequahtooway, Buffalo Futurism transports you to an Indigenous futuristic park where tatanga have returned to the land and roam freely. As you walk among tipis, baby buffalo spirits, crocus flowers, bones, and zombies, learn about the myth of the “disappearing” buffalo and what really happened to them, listen to a story about crocuses and baby buffalo belly buttons, and learn about the Buffalo Treaty and its efforts to restore the interdependent physical, spiritual, and cultural relationship between the buffalo and humans.

Buffalo Futurism imagines a future where tatanga rise and guide us to a more harmonious time.
