Great Multi-function Calculator

This is more than just your standard calculator. There are 4 modes to choose from. The one I find most useful is the Tape Mode. It is great for itemized calculations.

There are just a couple of small issues that prevent me from giving it a perfect 5-star rating. The first is that while having a Scientific Mode is great, having a Scientific Mode with a graphing screen would have made any other calculator app obsolete. Secondly, there is no backspace key. This would make it so much easier to fix the most common typos. Instead, you must clear and re-enter the entry altogether. Not a huge problem, but just a bit inconvenient.

Not as good as it was

Latest update without warning blindsided me. No longer a user friendly app and complicated.
If the creator left it up to the end user to be able to keep the old style or revert back to the older style after trying the new style it wouldn’t have been so bad. But that is not the option, instead it’s the like it or leave it. The option to pay more for different options feels more like a bait and switch in a way because the upgrade options on the surface don’t look that much better than the base version and taking that risk to keep handing money over for more unannounced surprises is off the table at this point. Creator is more than welcome to let me know when the other version is back, until then I have gone through a long list of competitors and found one that wasn’t as nice as the older version but still functioned like the older version. Personally I would prefer sharing what I found after an hour of searching, but that would likely block my review. Then again last night I tried for half an hour to post my negative review and it wouldn’t go through.

Was A great Tape Calculator

Prior to the update this was just the best classic tape calc. It was straightforward and worked really well. The update is buggy to say the least. The last several times I tried the basic now-handicapped version (keep in mind I had previously paid for the app) — which the update converted my paid version to — it was completely non-functional. By that I mean it would not function as a calculator. I emailed the developer and they did not respond. I was just looking for instructions on how to make the now-hobbled app I had always used just be a calculator.

This brings me to the next concern. If the update was going to turn my paid-for app into a nothing-app there should have been some warning. This was underhanded I feel. I don’t mind paying a developer for their hard work. But don’t steel my previous purchase. Let me know what you are doing and I will decide. I have since found a replacement tape calc app (10 Key Universal Calc) and was happy to pay 3 times the cost of the ‘key’ to make CrowdCafe’s app a calculator again. (Still only talking $6).
