Take a deep breath. That phrase greets you whenever you open Calm. It’s both a call to action and a defining feature of the app’s approach to meditation: you’re going to get through this, and all you need to start is a moment. In the increasingly crowded field of apps for meditation and mindfulness, Calm stands out for its ease of use and attention to (soothing) detail.
Calm Turned My World Upside Down
This app absolutely changed my life. So much so, this is my first and probably only review on the app-store that I will ever write. I wanted to review Calm just in the hopes that someone from the team will see because I wanted to thank the Calm creators for saving my life. This has been the hardest year every and I was in a very dark place and hit my rock bottom. I didn’t want to be on this earth anymore, so I thought, why not try meditation? I have nothing to lose. I downloaded Calm, stuck with the 30 day intro program and I am hooked. I’ve had it for a few months now and I can’t say enough good things. I love the layout, the speakers, the variety, the scenes, everything. Meditation has taught me how to slow my mind and think about things from a different perspective. I have become self-aware and I am so grateful that I am learning these things now because I have already seen such a large improvement in my mental health and happiness. Thank you Calm creators, and thank you to whoever is apart of your marketing team because you saved my life! My only suggestion for an update to the app is a queue so you can set up multiple meditations to listen to in a row, for those of us who like to binge meditate :) If you are unhappy with your life, please just give this app a chance. It could be the answer you’re looking for. It could be your light in the darkness.
I used to use Headspace for meditation (which is a fine app - especially if you’re just getting started) but Calm has helped me take things to a whole other level. The Headspace meditations were essentially all the same - there are maybe four variations but he cycles through those four and you get the same mix regardless of what series you’re working on (stress, anxiety, work performance, etc). I feel like the Calm meditations go much deeper and I’m noticing a huge difference in myself after switching over to Calm. Historically, I’m somewhat self critical and I have a higher than normal baseline for general anxiety (although I wouldn’t say that I have an anxiety disorder by any means). At times, these things make me impulsive or reactive in certain ways that I don’t like. I feel like I’m much more self aware after switching to Calm and I’m able to identify when I’m experiencing certain feelings and deal with them in a healthy way. Aside from that, I’m much more enthusiastic about my meditation practice and I’m meditating more often since I learn new skills every day rather than sitting through the same old boring meditation. Calm gives you a toolbox with multiple different tools that you can use in various situations. I love it and highly recommend it to anyone.
