From time to time, the Canary auto-mode switching feature may briefly access your GPS in order to have high confidence in your location. Battery life is very important to us and we do many things to ensure we use it sparingly. Please be aware that continued use of GPS services running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Could be improved

Using this to monitor my elderly mother. One buys these cameras to monitor for detail, but there appears to be some algorithms in the app that remove most of the feed one wants. If your loved one falls, you get a ‘continuous’ feed with her in bed and then on the ground, with the time leading to the fall absent. If there is an interaction needing to be monitored with an aide, that may not show up. As others have mentioned, the app will freeze with no way to reset except to delete it and reinstall. I’ve done that 2-3 times in just the last month. Having a camera to monitor loved ones is an essential in my opinion, but one will not see the critical details one needs quite often with this camera. I think this camera’s app is designed for an area with almost no activity, and when activity occurs, it will complete in a minute or so. It happened again. Needed to hear a conversation with the aide; Canary skipped right over it.

Continuous App Crashing During Setup

When trying to set up another Canary device, the app crashes. The way Canary technical support works, is that they close tickets very quickly, before the problem is resolved, so you have to keep opening new tickets and going through the exact same procedure, which didn’t work the last eight or 10 times you performed it. I have used both their email and their phone technical support, with no progress. Regardless of how many times I call or send in a technical support request, they just say they will elevate the ticket, and then nothing happens. This has to be one of the most incompetent security camera companies in existence, since you cannot even set up a new device using an iPhone 13 ProMax using the latest iOS operating system. Watch the developers response: they will say submit another ticket, and we will try to resolve your problem, which is exactly what I’ve been doing, literally for months, with no success. Please don’t tell me to submit another ticket – just fix the problem.

The 6.1.1 version is still glitchy

I rarely write a review on here especially overall critical reviews.
It is a bit frustrating since I’ve been a customer since 2015 and have paid for the premium service the majority of the time (if not all of it). The auto switching between home mode and away mode is hit and miss. It has never been an issue for me b4, but since the new app redesign, having to close and open the app for the mode change to happen is not an “auto change”. I don’t like receiving alerts that a “person may be in my house”.. When it’s me! Home mode is set to not record or send alerts…. I’m getting it due to it still being in Away mode when I walk thru my door, and it’s not because my geofencing area Isn't set correctly. SMH.
