From time to time, the Canary auto-mode switching feature may briefly access your GPS in order to have high confidence in your location. Battery life is very important to us and we do many things to ensure we use it sparingly. Please be aware that continued use of GPS services running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

Could be improved

Using this to monitor my elderly mother. One buys these cameras to monitor for detail, but there appears to be some algorithms in the app that remove most of the feed one wants. If your loved one falls, you get a ‘continuous’ feed with her in bed and then on the ground, with the time leading to the fall absent. If there is an interaction needing to be monitored with an aide, that may not show up. As others have mentioned, the app will freeze with no way to reset except to delete it and reinstall. I’ve done that 2-3 times in just the last month. Having a camera to monitor loved ones is an essential in my opinion, but one will not see the critical details one needs quite often with this camera. I think this camera’s app is designed for an area with almost no activity, and when activity occurs, it will complete in a minute or so. It happened again. Needed to hear a conversation with the aide; Canary skipped right over it.

Still have the original + 5 more love them

I received my first Canary as part of an INDIEGOGO around 2013. It was quite a few years ago to be sure. That camera is still going strong and so are the 5 others I’ve purchased along the way. All are in use. My mother in law has dementia and these cams have our preformed all others I have gotten. They give me the best piece of mind. Not only at her home but ours as well when we are away. The streaming is wonderful, one of the features I really love is the fact that I can see what the temperature is in the house. A few years ago we were out of state and my mother-in-law’s furnace went out and I could see she was walking around the house with her coat on and at first I didn’t know if it was just her dementia but when I checked closer with the camera, I realize that it was only 50 degrees in her house. I was able to reach a heating tech who got there right away and got her fixed up. Again, it’s gives you a wonderful peace of mind for your loved ones and your home

Disappointed. Use a different company.

Firstly, I have been a very long time user of Canary camera systems. When I first purchased my cameras I was enticed by the companies free services. I was looking for a camera without a monthly fee service. After only a few months I got an email that this was all changing and now there would be a monthly fee. I felt ripped off by Canary, so I’ve had a bad taste in my mouth about this company since signing up in 2017. I also have two Canary Flex’s. From the beginning they have had lots of issues. Issues of staying charged, taking an incredible amount of time to recharge, and them constantly losing connection. Not only that, but often times not catching people on the camera. Also, I recently got a new home internet system and the Canary Flex’s are not compatible with this type of wifi. My wifi uses both 2.4 GHZ and 5GHZ and I need it to be able to use both. Canary tried reaching out to me to sign back up for their services again by offering me a reduced annual fee and telling me that I need to buy new Canary cameras for them to work with my wifi. Now there are ads all over the Canary app. I would not recommend to anyone and I strongly suggest anyone considering this company to look into other options instead.
