Very good company

I have used Cap1 for roughly 15-16 yrs . I swapped when HSBC initially took over the market. I wished I would have done it sooner. Yes, I’ve been late and I’ve also had to shutdown cards due to the never ending economic situation and do payments to get them paid off. With absolutely no push back from Cap1, I’ve reopened cards after their payoff from shutdown. They have always worked with me and I also had my spouse get a Cap1 card as well. I’ve had items stop payment and also had refunds done with no issue…even including scammers. To be honest, I’ve had to use Cap1 at times to make ends meet. I know that’s not what CC cards are for and no, there was no frivolous spending…when fuel, rent (at that time), groceries etc cost double their cost and your work slows way down you need help and they’ve been there for me more than family and worked with me every-time. I’ve never had any issues with Cap1 at all. I’m a naturally skeptical person, but this company has proved to me over and over again that they are actually there for you. If there was any company to choose to back, it is this company. Cheesy commercials aside (lol), they truly are great. So from my family to Cap1 family, thank you.

Almost got that 5

I’ve been using the app for many years and love that it keeps track of all my credit cards and car payments. I like knowing how much credit I have available in case of emergencies. My only quarrel with the app is on the car payment side. I took a month off during the beginning of Covid and that payment was just tacked onto the end of my loan. For many months and possibly a year I was overpaying my monthly loan amount thinking that would bring down the extra amount I owed at the end but that total kept getting bigger. What the app really fails to show the user is the principal balance you have to pay monthly to make up for that lost month. I had noticed this many months back and called about this issue and the person that handled my call fixed the issue with that balance for me but never explained that I needed to pay that principal on the app. I get that I should be more cognizant of my bills and such but maybe instead of having that option well below the payment option have it above or before finalizing payment the app asks the user if they would like to pay on that. I’m sure I’m not the only user that’s had this issue either.
After writing this I’m almost considering removing another star but I won’t because I still really like the app. It’s so very convenient and almost user friendly lol

Does Not Care About Customers

I reported a technical issue with this application every month for 4 months where they were taking auto-payments from the wrong (outdated) account despite my updating the account every month and calling to speak with a representative, report the error, and try to fix it again. I was reassured every month that they logged the error and that I would not be penalized while we continued to resolve it as I always corrected it manually and made my payments in time.

They then automatically closed my accounts, which I had for over 7 years with a perfect payment record, and said there was nothing they could do because the terms and conditions made the rules - even though I had months of documented calls reporting this issue with the app and working with representatives to correct it so that their software would stop reverting to my old account and overwriting my new account.

After an hour on the phone being transferred to the wrong department multiple times, I was told there was nothing that they could do because the terms and conditions set the rules and it didn’t matter that it was an issue with the CapitalOne app. So, now I have to file a complaint through the Federal Credit Bureau and IRS due to the impact of closing these accounts on my credit, and Capital One has lost a 7+ year customer with a perfect payment record for literally no reason other than they didn’t want to deal with it. Trust is permanently broken and this app can’t be trusted.

Not practical for deposit account holders

From what I hear this app and Capital One as a whole is AMAZING for credit card holders but for those that own deposit accounts this app really isn’t that useful! I’ve been banking with Capital One for years and I can honestly say I miss a lot of the features the Capital One Wallet app used to provide. I’d love the developers of this app to take their deposit account holders into consideration and add features like alerts when a deposit is made to my account as well as alerts when a transaction is made over a certain dollar amount. To be clear, when I say alerts I mean actual notifications to my device sent from the app that appear on my home screen. I don’t want to have to receive alerts via text that is so outdated plus I have enough text threads as it is between work and family. I’m beginning to feel like Capital One isn’t interested in investing in their deposit account holders now or even in the future. I believe this company is more focused and geared towards their credit and lending services. To be fair Chase not only provides these basic notification services to customers but they also have added the ability to view what you spend money on weekly to their app. I do not want to close my accounts and go over to another bank because I truly enjoy banking with Cap. One. I love everything from the customer service all the way down to the debit card design. But I have a feeling I will leave if I don’t see any changes being made.

Good app but quirky lately (UPDATED)

I’ve been using this app for years and prefer it over competitor’s offerings. I like that notifications can be configured and received for every transaction. However within the past week or so, these notifications have been arriving very late — like many hours after the transaction has occurred. E.g. if my wife makes a purchase in the morning on her card I won’t see the transaction notification until the afternoon and I have to ask her if that was a legitimate transaction or not. It’s not very helpful, please look into why these delays are occurring.

EDIT: reduced from 5 stars to 2 stars because the delays in the purchase notifications have gotten absurd. I have iOS and SMS notifications enabled for purchases and both have been arriving OVER TWLEVE HOURS AFTER the actual purchase time. This is plainly ridiculous. Please fix!

EDIT2 (14Jan2020): OK back to five stars for now! The notifications issue seems to have been resolved as the “Instant Purchase Notifications” are back to being “instant”. Overall I have no qualms about this app as it’s easy to use for the few basic things I need it to do, with the notifications thing being at the top of the list. Thank you for the fix!

Yea… I’m disgusted with the rigid corporate greed

Easy to use? Sure. 2 points in airline miles for every dollar spent, not bad except that I pay $59 per year for that feature. Customer service, no complaints historically. However, their unwillingness to facilitate a one time request to waive $50 in interests charges for a customer of 8 years who spends $30,000+ on the credit card yearly because I made payments late twice in the same year (by 1 day and 2 days respectively), and during the year of the pandemic? Not having it. I rather frankly but nicely reasoned this out with a supervisor, but as she calmly explained to me what they do for one they must do for another? I mean yea, you are right. You shouldn’t be so rigid with ANYONE. This is maybe the fifth time I’ve been late in the history of owning the account (again of eight years). There are just too many better offers and better flexibility with other credit cards not to protest in the form of taking my business elsewhere. There are several apps out now that allow you to pay off purchases over the course of three months with no interest and no late fees. Just something for you guys to think about. Seriously Capital One, how short sighted. They were earning $700 - $1,200 a year just from purchases I made from the retailers. Anyway, time to spend those airline miles, change over a couple of autopays, and shop for my new card/app company. Boo, Capital One. Just boo.

Dishonest bank

I filed a dispute regarding a double charge on my Capital One 360 debit card. Jan 10 I had funds in my acct $85 to pay the merchant, the merchant swiped my card and the merchant stated the charge was declined, they swiped the card again and stated it was declined again so I gave them a different card from another bank and the transaction went through just fine. Laster that evening I received a notification from Capital One 360 that the transaction went through to the merchant. The next morning Jan 11 at 9am I received a notification that the transaction went through again. I contacted the merchant and they told me to contact the bank. I did contact Capital One 360, so they gave me a provisional credit after 10 days of my complaint. April 11, 2024 Capital One 360 reversed the provisional credit sending my acct into the -$85. I have proof where I paid the merchant with another card when the merchant advised me that the card declined twice on Jan 10 and never even swiped the card on the April 11th because of the declination on Jan 10. I have proof of where I paid the merchant on April 11 with another card as well. I called Capital One 360 to have the reversal of the provisional credit removed, they placed me on hold came back to the line and stated nonsense, they do not know why the reversal of the provisional credit was done, and they need more time put me on hold again and eventually hung up.
Reported to BBB
Will allow the account to close.

Needs Some Tweaks

Been using over a year (credit card), still don’t understand how this banking app doesn’t have a pin login! Having to enter my entire password every time to log in is inconvenient when checking an account in a pinch. Also, no dark mode…weird in this day and age. And the amount of adverts and pushing branded partnerships is kind of gross. Using their HYSA intermittently and a credit card consistently, I also just opened a checking account but the ACH is expected to take a whole week, which is fine because it’s going to take an estimated 11 days to even get the debit card so my money there is tied up! If it takes more than a day to receive my deposits (currently takes overnight to my A bank if requested by 4p PST), I’ll definitely not be using them for checking! Very sloooow, outdated banking. I do like the ability to lock my credit card at least - but most cards have that option now!

UPDATE: Yep, takes 2-3 business days to receive a payment sent from work, whereas it’s in my account next business day with my main bank. Which is fine, I guess, because I requested partial payment and I STILL don’t even have my debit card (almost two weeks after opening account). Will definitely not be using this bank for checking account, BUT it’s currently the most decent for HYSA so my emergency fund will still live here!

App”ic” Fail

Capital one app is a convenient way of tracking expenses and making on the spot payments. In our business it was a great card, with multiple users we made payments daily if not twice daily. Apps are made for convenience. However, with the C1 App there is no way to remove draft accounts. Some what Defeats the purpose of having a mobile App. We had someone break into our office and forge checks . Our bank(s) closed our accounts-as we have 3 dba’s. Just as our daily capital one payments were being drafted our accounts were closed. using the Capital one App, we added our new accounts- the only difference in draft account numbers were first 3 digits. The capital one App only shows the last 4 digits. So if you are traveling as we do in our industry, living by our smart phones, you are stuck guessing what account is the correct account to be drafted. Capital one closed our account and refused to reopen it. After 2 years of multiple weekly payments and 10 of thousands spent on the card monthly , our Capital one app failed us by not showing which bank account was which.

Make sure if you change bank accounts you are near a desktop to immediately change draft information because the mobile app will not allow you to delete accounts. We changed over 30 payable accounts due to this forgery nightmare. Capital one is the only card that failed us and closed our account- App is incomplete and still needs work.

Not A Helpful Lender

I have my car loan with this company, due to the fact that in 2016 I lost my job and didn’t get a permanent position until 2018. This caused my credit rating to go down. I was grateful that in 2018 I was able to get my car thru this company even though it was at a high interest rate so it wasn’t like they were helping me out for nothing in return. I never was late or missed a payment in 3 yrs of having their car loan. However in November of 2021 I had emergency surgery and was out of work for 2 months with a serious health issue and I called them to see if they could defer my car payment for one month until I got all my bills situated. They told me that at the time, this was not an option. A year later, I end up in the hospital again for surgery (due to complications), again I call them to see if they can defer the payment and I was told no, this company does not offer deferments. I was so mad that I told them that after I pay this car off, I will never do business with them. I also have a small credit card with them that I intend to pay off because in this day and age of COVID and high inflation, I can’t fathom a company that is not willing to help out a customer. It isn’t like I was asking them to erase a car payment, I was just asking to defer it. I e had other car loans who have done it and they will defer it for at least 3 request. Yes, I paid it off too!!!!
