Capto:Screen Capture& Recorder 4+

Very useful app!!

I had used this developer's previous screencapture app, which although prone to the occassional crash was a good option for the screen selection recording I do.
I upgraded to capto because the old app was outdated and thought this new one would be better. I'm happy to say i've seen much less crashes. You totally get what you pay for but I really wish it had more options for choosing the file format of my recordings, setting save file and destination naming options, and if some of its editing options were a bit more precise /power user oriented.

Poor user interface, no audio controls

The user interface is complex and gets in the way of simple tasks. Try recording a video from your screen using computer audio and computer video. There is no audio selection option. There is a grayed out video camera icon, but it may not respond when selected. Capto likes screen captures of still images, but why bother with this clunky software when a simple screen capture using Apple keystrokes will let you capture an image that can be imported directly into your favorite editor.

The concept of a screen recorder app that does not have an audio interface control makes no sense. The App developers clearly never tested their product in the real world. Overall, Capto seems to be a failed attempt to update an older app, Voila, but the result is an awkward dysfunctional product that will waste way too much time trying to get it to function in what should be the bottom line purpose: record a computer screen video with simple controls to select window size and audio needs.

Stay away from this turkey until the interface is improved and there is some proof that it actually works as described.

Hi, Thank you for taking your time to leave us some feedback here. For Mac App Store users, to enable record computer audio option, you need to install an audio component by clicking on “Need Computer Audio” option from the recording assistant window (that appears just before recording). When you click on the same, you will be directed to a website link. Here, please download the audio component. Next, install the same. Once done, you need to restart your system. Now, start a recording and you should be able to check the box “Record Computer Audio”. This option enables you to record the audio playing via your Mac. Been using from 1 year to 2 years...

UPDATE: One thing I like about the CAPTO developers is they make every effort to keep the application functional… the developer is involved with the application…. there are features I would like to see implemented… BUT I find this application FOR the Price … money well spent… I’m a user for almost 2 years and serves my needs WELL and OK...

I’ve used for some time…. Mostly screen capture and meme creation…. I’ve used the Video capture and works OK as well as the Screen Capture… sometimes crashes but this could be attributed to the memory usage of the computer… for the Price I don’t think you can do better… computer memory is key… got only 4 gig? or 8 make sure you don’t have other applications open...
