Want to capture the world in more than just 2 dimensions? Try 3D scanning anything or anyone with Capture, the fastest and most accurate iPhone scanning app available!
Use Capture to take 3D scans, share them with friends, or save and download them in any file format. ALL FOR FREE.
Note: Capture requires the TrueDepth camera, only available on the iPhone X, Xs, Xr, or Xs Max.
-- Take a scan of a static object just like you take a panorama photo.
-- Preview your scan in our model environment or place it in Augmented Reality
-- Send your scan to a friend via iMessage, Slack, WhatsApp, and more. All iPhones will be able to view the scan and place it in Augmented Reality, even if the model does not have a TrueDepth camera
-- If you've signed up for an account, you can also make the scans viewable in our web viewer (platform.standardcyborg.com) and share the url with your friends
-- Sign up for a free account within the app to save and view your scans to platform.standardcyborg.com. From there, you can download the files in OBJ or PLY format.

The app works great, but I have one qualm with the app. When using the High-Resolution Scanning option, the app crashes if the scan is too large. If I’m doing a scan that takes maybe 30+ seconds to take, once I press the button to stop scanning, the app crashes. I can only use the high res scanning if I’m doing a quick scan. This really bothers me, because it seems like I’m about to get a really nice 3D scan, and then when I try to finish, the app just crashes and I lose the whole scan.
Some info: I’m using an iPhone XS Max 256GB. I’m now on iOS 13.1 beta 4, but this wasn’t working when I was on iOS 12 either.
Says it’s compatible with my phone, download it bad it says it isn’t.
So which is it? Why do you have a list of compatible iPhones and iPads only to tell people once they download it it’s not compatible??
I think the confusion on the users part is in the description you state which phones you need to capture an object and that you have to have a true depth camera. Fine. But then you go on to talk about scanning objects (which sounds like a different function) and how anyone on any iPad or iPhone can view them etc. So when you say “capture” won’t work without the true depth camera you’re talking about the entire app not that function.
You make it seem like there are 3 things the app can do: capture, scan and share. It reads like the capture feature won’t work without true depth but the scan and share features still will.
When you say capture won’t work you mean Capture won’t work. Very unclear especially with the huge list of compatible devices that are, in fact, not compatible. Love wasting my time on stuff like this. You should look at your app download page sometime. Save a lot of people a lot of time.
Developer Response ,
We're really sorry you had this experience! We try to be as explicit as possible - the app requires the TrueDepth camera (iPhone X and newer) to take scans. A user that can take scans is able to share those scans with other iphone users through imessage, etc.
Unfortunately, a lot of confusion arises because we're unable to differentiate this in our app listing. Apple only allows app developers to differentiate compatibility based on iOS version and the like, not based on phone model, hence the reference text that apple generates that says the app works with other phones. This is why we try and say this first thing in the app description, and as soon as someone downloads the app - to help alleviate some of the confusion.
Not the light, not the speed , video misleading
So I’ve tried about two dozen scans. Set it up on a small circular table to keep the camera at the same distance from the object. Brought in a few additional lights as well. Ran the camera around the edge of the table, going so slow as to not have it “whoops” on me. (The video by the way makes it appear you scanned the entire tractor in about 6 seconds.) After 93 seconds - yes I had a timer going- I made it all the way around the table. Started to try and get the top of the object and a whoops pops up.
A RESUME would make some sense here.
However, there still multiple spots where the item is blank and seems to have missed a large majority of the object.
A miniature bowling pin, very mundane object wouldn’t scan at all. Timed out every time at 3 seconds. A bobble head would scan about 3/4 and then my bobble head would have 2 heads.
There is no “high definition” option in the settings like one commenter posted.
I even put the phone in my kids toy car and drove it around the object, smooth and slow, but yet only made it around the object one out of 8 tries. And I’m talking REAL slow and smooth.
I’m not even trying to get great details, I’m just hoping to get the majority of the shape so I can export it out, and touch it up instead of having to recreate the object from scratch. I would hope to revisit this app in the future, but as of right now, it’s got too many issues.
