The old Carrot app let us track our weight and ingested calories and was fantastic at shaming us in a hilarious way when we didn't achieve our goals. Maybe some special snowflake was offended by this, but intelligent people have a sense of humor about our human shortcomings. Carrot was the best option for calorie tracking if only for the reason that it didn't in any way attempt to become a social media platform like those other guys. I'll never use those because I'm not looking to compete with other people or look for attention. I am only looking for a goad for personal accountability. RIP old Carrot. I miss you.
I got this app is part of the carrot bundle I primarily was going to the carrot weather app but the bundle such a good deal and these other apps looked really great so I got all of them. In terms of workout apps this one is very simple at least at the beginning. I'm only up to level III so I have it unlocked a lot of things yet but what it has out of the box is very useful in terms of getting somebody to start working out a simple seven minute exercise every day. The initial exercises are not incredibly difficult however if you do all of them for the complete amount of time you will get A good workout. I think this is a great app for a variety of people whether they're just starting to work out whether they're getting a little bit of exercise because they're coming from an injury as in my case. My knee is currently in a brace from surgery so I need to do exercises but nothing too crazy and this app allows you to easily substitute other workouts and exercises in it with no problem. The voice of the app is hilarious just as in the weather app and alarm clock app and other CARROT apps. It really seems to have its own personality and talks to you it's pretty hilarious in a negative type of way definitely makes me crack up while you're working out and cute you're going through your workout. Highly recommend this app and get it and just buy the bundle.
I love the Carrot to-do app and I love this as well. It gives you a gentle chiding about your weight, so if you can enjoy that humor, get the app. If not, don't. But I have huge issues with this app. It does absolutely nothing other than telling you if you current weight is more or less than your last. It's simply a weigh-in to weigh-in comparison with no bigger picture or long time outlook. It seems like whether it's 5 lb. or 50 lb. you earn points at the same rate. The accumulation of points is a bit of a mystery. I've lost 6% of my body weight in 6 weeks but only just moved to the second level. And what do you get if you go up a level? Nothing that I can see. There are no rewards. So I use this app just for mild humor and a vague sense of pride I get when I achieve weight loss-- but again, all feedback is vague and equally positive and negative. Example: If you start at 125 lb., then a week later you're down to 120 lb., and the next day weigh 120.2 lb., you will be scolded just as severely for the mild 3 oz. fluctuation as if you'd gained 3 lb.; the fact that you lost 5 lb. in a week is completely forgotten and unrewarded. If the day after weighing 120.2 lb. your weight fluctuates back to 120 lb., this 3 oz. "achievement" is praised as highly as the time you lost 5 lb. Not very motivating.
This app is hilarious and definitely makes you want to come back to it (whoever heard of WANTING to workout?!). There are however a few things about it that are not so great. The actual workout: The first time that I completed this workout, I felt great… Until the next day. I was quite sore and could barely move around without hurting myself. The workout was amazing otherwise. The money situation: I figured out a few days after using this app that you can only do one workout every single day, meaning that the only workout that the app comes with is the 7 Minutes in Hell workout unless you want to pay for more. I found that quite disappointing, since I had to pay $3.99 for the app in the first place. Apparently all of the CARROT³ apps are this much, and I haven't downloaded in any of the other ones since I have a feeling that they will be quite disappointing as well. Great app otherwise.
You are basically paying for one short workout, guided by a robot voice that ceases to be funny after a few times. Currently at level 8, and although the exercise routine is good to whip you into shape a bit at a time, I wish there was more variation without forcing you to buy the exercise pack. All they give you is one 7 minute blend of a few exercises. So prepare to be bored after doing it a few times. It kind of feels like I paid for a demo app. I like it more than their calorie counter, which offers less and tries to get you to pay more. Debating whether to purchase the exercise pack, mostly since it rubbed me the wrong way that they only give you one short workout here. On the plus side, their apps are designed well and very easy to use. I also like how they make you work to open some features, but I wish there was some sort of variation to get there... So far it doesn't seem that I can unlock new exercises just by getting points.
CARROT has requested a review so in order to keep my mistress pleased I will write an honest review. I love this app. I love all the CARROT apps this far. Most fitness apps are too serious for me to truly enjoy. I am not a fitness minded person. I like video games, sitting indoors, and being overall lazy. But I also like playing sports with my friends (I do have them surprisingly). But I am in such bad shape it makes the sports really hard to enjoy. Most fitness apps try to encourage you through motivational speeches and clever stories. Don't get me wrong those work great for some people. I am just not one of them. I need an AI construct like GLados to instruct me. CARROT satisfied that need pretty well. It is much enjoyable for me to have a snarky AI companion that doesn't really appreciate me yet is willing to help me. Now for my four star rating. CARROT like her personality tends to be unstable at times. Perhaps it's my lack of performance but she often crashes the first few attempts. And at times the Apple Watch will not properly connect. But it usually just takes a couple times and it works. I am running IOS 10.2 on a 7+So if you are like me and can't take a typical fitness app seriously because it is just too serious than CARROT is probably what you are looking for.
