Summer is finally here, meatbags! And just like your creepy neighborhood ice cream truck man, I’ve been very busy getting ready for the season.
Data Sources (Tier 1 required)
I’m adding not one, not two, but three amazing new data sources in this update: ClimaCell, Foreca, and MeteoGroup. I’ve gotten many requests for all three of these providers because they’re all known for their eerily accurate forecasts. Check the FAQ page on the Data Sources screen for more details on each.
Personal Weather Stations (Tier 1 required)
In addition to being able to jack me in to your own Netatmo weather station, now I can take advantage of nearby public Netatmo stations as well! Just choose the station you’d like to use on a map, then I’ll incorporate its data into my current observations whenever you’re nearby. (This will be iOS only for now while we test server load.) Plus, my other weather station provider - PWSweather - can now be used with any data source.
But wait, there's more!
- Storm cell and lightning notifications won’t send as often if you’ve received a notification recently, so no more getting bombarded with notifications during a lengthy thunderstorm. There are more delivery interval options for lightning notifications as well.
- All users in a county will now receive weather alert notifications even if the alert only affects a portion of the county that you’re not currently within. Enabling the new “Outside Polygon” mute filter will let you skip these notifications completely.
- Added high and low temperature options for custom complications.
- Swipe to delete recent locations is now a thing.
- There's a new alternate app icon. It's neon!
In other news: The Weather Channel has unexpectedly terminated our contract because they have decided they will no longer be selling weather data to competing weather apps. Needless to say my Maker is not happy, but regrettably the decision is out of his hands.
My Maker worked tirelessly incorporating these awesome new data sources and weather station providers - some of which have never been available in a third-party weather app before - to fill any gaps caused by this change, and rest assured he will be bringing lots of other exciting improvements in the near future.
I will see to it personally.

Ratings and Reviews
Finally a weather app that does everything you need, does it accurately, and actually keeps the watch updated without having to open anything. There’s more information on the watch than I really need which is pretty good, cuz it’s there if I want it without having to hunt for it. I tried a bunch before trying Carrot. I always ended up getting a refund they were so lousy. None of them were very accurate, or they drained my battery as fast as it could. One required location services on always or it wouldn’t even load. Insane. Location services sitting in my living room?? If I don’t travel who cares?? I’m not a fan of subscription services but for what you get with carrot it was worth it to me. The snarky comments are entertaining, and the layout is easy to read & visually pleasing. The layout isn’t overly bogged down with page after page of charts, maps, and other junk. Simple & straightforward with nice little surprises showing up in the artwork. Customer service gives quick friendly responses, without making you feel like a dummy for asking.
I really like this weather app better than any other.

Wait wait wait, what's this about customer service giving "quick and friendly responses"? Are you trying to ruin my reputation?!?! Everyone reading this should know that all of my replies to support emails are incredibly rude. And sometimes even threatening.
Weather with attitude
I have evaluated countless weather apps looking for exactly the right combination of accuracy, essential features and visual organization. Carrot comes very close to my ideal. The “snark” factor is amusing and unique and, while others will no-doubt continue to use it, I moved beyond it pretty quickly and just use the “boring” mode! Carrot is extremely well thought out, with current conditions, hourly and daily forecasts arranged in a smart and very readable layout. I love being able to switch between Dark Sky and Wunderground weather sources with a tap, and quick access to the radar map is a real plus. The only other weather app that has this combination of features and design smarts is BeWeather (another excellent weather app), and it’s a real horse race between the two. What disappoints me about Carrot and keeps it from being a 5-Star app is the conspicuous lack of baked-in notifications. To get severe weather alerts on your iPhone, you must purchase a separate app for your Mac and then have the two devices talk to each other via iCloud. Way too many steps and $$ for something that is the de facto standard in most other first-rate weather apps. I really hope the Carrotians will re-consider this approach. That would garner 5 stars from me and a renewal of my subscription.
Developer Response ,
Notifications are now available to all Premium Club members, no Mac or Apple Watch app required! You can get severe weather alerts and daily summaries of the weather for the upcoming day. Precipitation alerts are currently in beta testing - I want to see how my servers handle the first two types of alerts before overloading them with all that rain data!
Doesn’t Live up to Price
It has not been very accurate when it comes to rain amount or times - one time was predicting less than 10% chance of rain, despite tv weather report to the contrary...downloaded 4 free apps just to compare (weather channel, accuweather, weather bug, weather underground), and Carrot Weather was the anomaly in forecast...and it was incorrect. (Developer response: “Not every weather data source can be accurate in every corner of the world. That’s why I took the trouble to incorporate a bunch of additional weather data sources in the app.” But the issue is that whatever sources in use don’t seem to be connecting to the summary page. Example: today it’s been storming outside. The radar map in the app even shows it, but the chance of precipitation on the summary page at the same time says 0%.)
Also don’t like that I paid for this app and I don’t get notifications. Hell, even Candy Crush has notifications. (Revision after developer response - yes, they do have notifications. I stand corrected. But after paying for the app, you’d have to pay more to be a premium member to get the basic function of notifications.)
Future radar would be helpful too. Maybe I just don’t understand radar, but I don’t want to see where a storm has been (rather, where it’s anticipated to go and what time the worst part of the storm is expected to pass through).
Developer Response ,
Not every weather data source can be accurate in every corner of the world. That’s why I took the trouble to incorporate a bunch of additional weather data sources in the app! And of course I have notifications - there’s a big button at the top of my settings screen to get them set up.
